GENERAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONSEnglish – 11115 10 82-26 Rev.2 2008-06-03Cutting equipmentThis section describes how to choose and maintain yourcutting equipment in order to:• Reduce the risk of kickback.• Reduce the risk of the saw chain breaking or jumpingoff the bar.• Obtain optimal cutting performance.• Extend the life of cutting equipment.• Avoid increasing vibration levels.General rules• Only use cutting equipment recommended by us!See instructions under the heading Technical data.• Keep the chain’s cutting teeth properlysharpened! Follow our instructions and use therecommended file gauge. A damaged or badlysharpened chain increases the risk of accidents.• Maintain the correct depth gauge setting! Followour instructions and use the recommended depthgauge clearance. Too large a clearance increasesthe risk of kickback.• Keep the chain properly tensioned! If the chain isslack it is more likely to jump off and lead to increasedwear on the bar, chain and drive sprocket.• Keep cutting equipment well lubricated andproperly maintained! A poorly lubricated chain ismore likely to break and lead to increased wear on thebar, chain and drive sprocket.Cutting equipment designed to reducekickbackThe only way to avoid kickback is to make sure that thekickback zone of the bar never touches anything.By using cutting equipment with ”built-in” kickbackreduction and keeping the chain sharp and well-maintained you can reduce the effects of kickback.BarThe smaller the tip radius the lower the chance ofkickback.ChainA chain is made up of a number of links, which areavailable in standard and low-kickback versions. Some terms that describe the bar and chainTo maintain the safety features of the cutting equipment, you should replace a worn or damaged bar or chain witha bar and chain combinations recommended byHusqvarna. See instructions under the heading TechnicalData for a list of replacement bar and chain combinationswe recommend.Bar• Length (inches/cm)• Number of teeth on bar tip sprocket (T).• Chain pitch (inches). The spacing between the drivelinks of the chain must match the spacing of the teethon the bar tip sprocket and drive sprocket.! WARNING! Faulty cutting equipment orthe wrong combination of bar and sawchain increases the risk of kickback!Only use the bar/saw chaincombinations we recommend, andfollow the filing instructions. Seeinstructions under the headingTechnical data.IMPORTANT! No saw chain design eliminates thedanger of kickback.! WARNING! Any contact with a rotatingsaw chain can cause extremely seriousinjuries.
