You use these ports toconnect peripheral devices such as printers, scanners, anddigital cameras to your computer. For more information aboutport locations, see “Checking Out Your Computer” on page 5.IEEE 1394 and USB ports support plug-and-play andhot-swapping, which means that your computer will usuallyrecognize such a device whenever you plug it into theappropriate port. When you use an IEEE 1394 or USB device forthe first time, your computer will prompt you to install anysoftware the device needs.
