44 Garrett Metal Detectors AT Gold™ 45Upper Scale indicatessignal strengthPINPOINT Pushbutton(Press and hold to pinpoint)DepthIndicatorTraditionalpinpointingtechniqueusing Pinpointpushbutton.Note: For best pinpointing results, maintain a constantheight above the ground (e.g. 1" or 2cm) and ensure that thedetector is properly ground balanced.Tip for narrowing the detection area: Large targets canproduce wide signals while pinpointing, making it difficultto precisely locate the target's center. To help pinpoint, thedetector can be retuned to the target to narrow the detectionarea as follows.While holding down the Pinpoint pushbutton, move thecoil toward the target until the upper scale just reaches afull-scale response. Then, quickly release and depress thePinpoint button again to retune the detector and narrow itsdetection field. Continue moving the searchcoil toward thetarget to find its central peak response. If needed, repeat theretune process to further narrow the target's response.A quality hand-held pinpointer such as Garrett's Pro-Pointer is a recommended accessory item to speed the targetrecovery process and to aid in locating secondary targets.
