• Speak commands as they appear on the screen.• Respond to voice prompts from the device as needed.• Increase the length of your wakeup phrase to reduce thechance of accidental voice command activation.• Listen for two tones to confirm when the device enters andexits voice command.Starting a Route Using Voice CommandYou can say the names of popular, well-known locations.1 Say your wakeup phrase (Setting the Wakeup Phrase,page 11).2 Say Find Place.3 Listen for the voice prompt, and speak the name of thelocation.4 Say the line number.5 Say Navigate.Muting InstructionsYou can disable the voice prompts for voice command withoutmuting the device.1 Select Apps > Voice Command > .2 Select Mute Instructions > Enabled.Voice ControlFor regions where the Voice Command feature is unavailable,the Voice Control feature is activated. Voice Control allows youto use your voice to control the device. Before you can use theVoice Control feature, you must configure it for your voice.Configuring Voice ControlThe Voice Control feature must be configured for a single user'svoice and does not work for other users.1 Select Apps > Voice Control.2 Follow the on-screen instructions to record commands foreach voice control phrase.NOTE: You do not have to read the exact phrase on thescreen. You may say an alternative command with the samemeaning based on your preference.To use a voice control feature, you must say the command yourecorded for the feature.Using Voice Control1 Say the command you recorded for the Voice Controlphrase.The voice control menu appears.2 Follow the on-screen instructions.Voice Control Tips• Speak in a normal voice directed at the device.• Reduce background noise, such as voices, or the radio, toincrease the accuracy of the voice recognition.• Speak commands as they appear on the screen.• Listen for a tone to confirm when the device successfullyreceives a command.Bluetooth Connected FeaturesThe device has several Bluetooth connected features for yourcompatible smartphone. Some features require you to install theSmartphone Link app on your smartphone. Go to garmin.com/smartphonelink for more information.Hands-Free Calling: Allows you to place and receive phonecalls using your device, and allows you to use the device as ahands-free speaker phone. If the selected language supportsthe voice command feature, you can place and answer callsusing voice commands.Notifications: Displays phone notifications and messages onyour device. This feature is not available for all languages.Send Locations to Device: Allows you to send locations fromyour smartphone to your navigation device.Foursquare Check In: Allows you to check into Foursquarelocations using your navigation device.Weather updates: Sends real-time weather conditions andalerts to your device.Garmin Live Services: Provides subscription-based services toview live data on your device, such as traffic conditions,parking, and advanced weather forecasts.Pairing with Your Phone and Connecting toSmartphone LinkYou must pair your Garmin DriveSmart device with your phoneto use Bluetooth features. After the devices are paired, theyconnect automatically when they are turned on and within range.Some features require the Smartphone Link app. You canconnect to the Smartphone Link app during the pairing processor later.1 From the app store on your phone, install the SmartphoneLink app (optional).2 Place the Garmin DriveSmart device and your phone within3 m (10 ft.) of each other.3 On the Garmin DriveSmart device, select Settings >Bluetooth, and fill the Bluetooth check box.4 Select Search for Devices.5 On your phone, enable Bluetooth wireless technology, andset the phone to be discoverable.See your phone owner's manual for more information.6 On the Garmin DriveSmart device, select OK.The Garmin DriveSmart device begins searching for nearbyBluetooth devices, and a list of Bluetooth devices appears.
