Grates should be washedregularly and, of course, after spillovers.Wash them in hot, soapy water and rinsewith clean water. When replacing the grates,be sure they are positioned securely overthe burners.Do not operate a burner for an extendedperiod of time without cookware on thegrate. The finish on the grate may chipwithout cookware to absorb the heat.To remove burned-on food, use a soap-filled scouring pad.Although they are durable, the grates willgradually lose their shine, regardless of thebest care you can give them. This is due totheir continual exposure to hightemperatures. You will notice this soonerwith lighter color grates.NOTE: Do not clean the grates in a dishwasher or ina self-cleaning oven.For porcelain cooktop models only:n After cleaning the grates, dry themthoroughly by putting them in a warmoven for a few minutes. Do not put thegrates back on the range while they arewet. When replacing the grates, makesure they are positioned securely overthe burners.n To prevent rusting on cast iron grates,apply a light coating of cooking oil onthe bottom of the grates.Cooktop Surface (on porcelain cooktop models)To avoid damaging the porcelain enamelsurface of the cooktop and to prevent itfrom becoming dull, clean up spills rightaway. Foods with a lot of acid (tomatoes,sauerkraut, fruit juices, etc.) or foods withhigh sugar content could cause a dull spot ifallowed to set.When the surface has cooled, wash andrinse. For other spills such as fat spatterings,etc., wash with soap and water once thesurface has cooled. Then rinse and polishwith a dry cloth.NOTE: Do not store flammable materials in anoven or near the cooktop. Do not store or usecombustible materials, gasoline or otherflammable vapors and liquids in the vicinity ofthis or any other appliance.Appearance may vary
