To minimize the riskof eye injury, always wear ANSI Z87.1 approved eyeprotection when performing this procedure. WARNING: Never use solvents or other harshchemicals for cleaning the non-metallic parts of thetool. These chemicals may weaken the plastic materialsused in these parts. Use a cloth dampened only withwater and mild soap. Never let any liquid get inside thetool; never immerse any part of the tool into a liquid.MAINTENANCE WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personalinjury, turn unit off and remove the battery packbefore making any adjustments or removing/installing attachments or accessories. Anaccidental start-up can cause injury.Your CRAFTSMAN power tool has been designed to operateover a long period of time with a minimum of maintenance.Continuous satisfactory operation depends upon propertool care and regular cleaning.Drilling in MetalA SDS PLUS to round shank adaptor chuck is required.Ensure that tool is in Rotary Drilling mode. Start drilling withslow speed and increase to full power while applying firmpressure on the tool. A smooth even flow of metal chipsindicates the proper drilling rate. Use a cutting lubricantwhen drilling metals. The exceptions are cast iron and brasswhich should be drilled dry.nOTE: Large (5/16" to 1/2" [7.9 mm to 12.7 mm]) holesin steel can be made easier if a pilot hole (5/32" to 3/16"[4 mm to 4.8 mm]) is drilled first.Drilling in WoodA SDS PLUS to round shank adaptor chuck is required.Ensure that tool is in Rotary Drilling mode. Start drilling withslow speed and increase to full power while applying firmpressure on the tool. Holes in wood can be made with thesame twist drills used for metal. These bits may overheatunless pulled out frequently to clear chips from the flutes.For larger holes, use spade bits, power auger bits, or holesaws. Work that is apt to splinter should be backed up witha block of wood.Drilling in MasonryWhen drilling in masonry, use carbide-tipped bits rated forpercussion drilling and be certain that the bits are sharp.Use a constant and firm force on the tool to drill mosteffectively. A smooth, even flow of dust indicates the properdrilling rate.Recommendations for Tool Operation• When drilling, always apply pressure in a straight linewith the bit, but do not push hard enough to stall themotor or deflect the bit. A smooth even flow of materialindicates the proper drilling rate.Chipping and Chiselling (Fig. A, J)1. Press the mode selector release button 7 and rotate themode selector dial 6 to the "Hammering only" symbol.2. Insert the appropriate chisel and rotate it by hand tolock it into one of 51 positions.3. Adjust the side handle 3 as required.4. Switch on the tool and start working.5. Always switch off the tool when work is finished andbefore removing the battery pack. |
