Craftsman CMCH234 Instruction Manual
English83. Charging is complete when the green charging light(s)remain(s) continuously ON. Battery pack can be left incharger or removed. WARNING: Only charge batteries in air temperatureover 40 ° F (4.5 ° C) and below 104 ° F (+40 ° C).4. Charger will not charge a faulty battery pack, which maybe indicated by the charging light(s) staying OFF. Takecharger and battery pack to an authorized service centerif light(s) stay(s) OFF.nOTE: Refer to label near charging light(s) on chargerfor blink patterns.nOTE: To remove the battery pack, some chargersrequire the battery pack release button to be pressed.hot/Cold Pack DelayWhen the charger detects a battery pack that is too hotor too cold, it automatically starts a Hot/Cold Pack Delay, suspending charging until the battery pack has reached anappropriate temperature. The charger then automaticallyswitches to the pack charging mode. This feature ensuresmaximum battery pack life.A cold battery pack may charge at a slower rate than awarm battery pack. The hot/cold pack delay will be indicated by the greenlight(s) continuing to blink but with the red lightcontinuously ON. Once the battery pack has reached anappropriate temperature, the red light will turn OFF and thecharger will resume the charging procedure.Electronic Protection SystemLi-Ion tools are designed with an Electronic ProtectionSystem that will protect the battery pack againstoverloading, overheating or deep discharge. The tool willautomatically turn off and the battery pack will need tobe recharged.Important Charging Notes1. Longest life and best performance can be obtained ifthe battery pack is charged when the air temperatureis between 65 °F – 75 °F (18 ° C– 24 °C). DO NOT chargewhen the battery pack is below +40 °F (+4.5 °C), orabove +104 °F (+40 °C). This is important and willprevent serious damage to the battery pack.2. The charger and battery pack may become warm to thetouch while charging. This is a normal condition, anddoes not indicate a problem. To facilitate the cooling ofthe battery pack after use, avoid placing the charger orbattery pack in a warm environment such as in a metalshed or an uninsulated trailer.3. If the battery pack does not charge properly:a. Check operation of receptacle by plugging in a lampor other appliance;b. Check to see if receptacle is connected to a lightswitch which turns power off when you turn outthe lights;c. If charging problems persist, take the tool, batterypack and charger to your local service center.4. You may charge a partially used pack whenever youdesire with no adverse effect on the battery pack.• Do not use an extension cord unless it is absolutelynecessary. Use of improper extension cord could result inrisk of fire, electric shock or electrocution.• When operating a charger outdoors, always providea dry location and use an extension cord suitablefor outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor usereduces the risk of electric shock.• An extension cord must have adequate wire size(AWG or American Wire Gauge) for safety. The smallerthe gauge number of the wire, the heavier the cord andthus the greater its capacity. An undersized cord willcause a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of power andoverheating. The following table shows the correct sizeto use depending on total length of all extension cordsplugged together, and nameplate ampere rating. If indoubt, use the next heavier gauge.Minimum gauge for Cord setsVolts Total length of Cord in Feet(meters)120V 25 (7.6) 50 (15.2) 100 (30.5) 150 (45.7)Ampere RatingAmerican Wire gaugeMore Than Not MoreThan0 6 18 16 16 146 10 18 16 14 1210 12 16 16 14 1212 16 14 12 Not Recommended• Do not place any object on top of the charger or placethe charger on a soft surface that might block theventilation slots and result in excessive internal heat.Place the charger in a position away from any heat source. The charger is ventilated through slots in the top and thebottom of the housing.• Do not operate the charger with a damaged cordor plug. Have them replaced immediately.• Do not operate the charger if it has received a sharpblow, been dropped or otherwise damaged in anyway. Take it to an authorized service center.• Do not disassemble the charger; take it to anauthorized service center when service or repairis required. Incorrect reassembly may result in a risk ofelectric shock, electrocution or fire.• The charger is designed to operate on standard120V household electrical power. Do not attempt touse it on any other voltage. This does not apply to thevehicular charger.• Foreign materials of a conductive nature, such as, butnot limited to, grinding dust, metal chips, steel wool, aluminum foil or any buildup of metallic particlesshould be kept away from the charger cavities andventilation slots.• Always unplug the charger from the power supplywhen there is no battery pack in the cavity.Charging a Battery (Fig. C, D)1. Plug the charger into an appropriate outlet.2. Insert and fully seat battery pack. Green charginglight(s) will continuously blink while charging. |
