STARTER AIR CLEANER HOW TO START IF BATTERY iS LOWFIG, 20This cleaner (A, Fig. 20), is designed to keeppieces of grass, chaff, etc., from entering the enginecooling system. This cleaner must be cleaned everyfour to eight hours depending upon conditions.To clean, remove cleaner and tap lightly. Kneadwith hands until cleaner appears to be clean. An airhose. may be used if available. Replace air cleanerBefore starting engine.FFIG. 21The screen (B Fig. 2t), MUST BE BRUSHED,CLEANED FREQUENTLY, while operating tractorto prevent engine from over-heating.FI G. 221. The quickest method would be to connect quick-start Battery cables or _jumpers" from yourautomobile 12 volt Battery to the tractor Battery.CAUTION: Connect positive (+) terminal topositive (+) terminal.2. Method number two will NOT charge battery,but is strictly emergency starting only.a.b,Remove machine screws (C, D and E, Fig.2t). This will allow removal of belt guardassembly (F, Fig. 21).Loosen nut (G, Fig. 22), and push motor-generator forward. This will take tensionfrom V-belt. Remove bett.c. Secure a piece of rope and tie a knot in oneend. Place this knot into notch in enginepulley, refer to Fig. 22.d. Wrap rope around engine pulley using groovesprovided.e. Pull rope sharply to start engine.DO NOT REPLACE V-BELT OR GUARD WHILEENGINE I$ RUNNING. The above method of startingis only a means to get unit to nearest source ofbattery charging. DO NOT operate tractor any tongerthan necessary with V_belt and guard removed. Stopengine and replace as soon as possible. Be sure tohave proper tension on belt, retighten nut IG, Fig.22).!4_
