Prepare your log splitter for storage at the end of theseason or if the log splitter will not be used for 30 daysor more.WARNING: Never store machine with fuelin the fuel tank inside of building wherefumes may reach an open flame or sparkor where ignition sources are presentsuch as hot water and space heaters, furnaces, clothes dyers, stoves, electricmotors, etc.NOTE: Yearly check-up by your local Sears servicecenter is a good way to ensure your log spfitter willprovide maximum performance next season.LogSplitter• Clean the log splitter thoroughly.• Wipe unit with an oiled rag to prevent rust, especially on the wedge and the beam.EngineIMPORTANT:It is important to prevent gum depositsfrom forming in essential fuel system parts such ascarburetor, fuel filter, fuel hose, or tank duringstorage. Also, alcohol blended fuels (called gasohol orusing ethanol or methanol) can attract moisture whichleads to separation and formation of acids duringstorage. Acidic gas can damage the fuel system of anengine while in storage.• Drain the fuel tank. Always drain fuel intoapproved container outdoors away from openflame. Be sure the engine is cool. Do not smokewhile handling the fuel.• Start the engine and let it run until the fuel linesand carburetor are empty.• Never use engine or carburetor cleaner productsin the fuel tank or permanent damage mayoccur. Use fresh fuel next season.• Remove spark plug, pour approximately 1/2 oz.of engine oil into cylinder and crank slowly todistribute oil.• Replace spark plug.NOTE: Fuel stabilizer is an acceptable alternative inminimizing for formation of fuel gum deposits duringstorage. Please follow the instructions below for storing yourlog splitter with fuel and stabilizer in the engine.• Add stabilizer to gasoline in fuel tank or storagecontainer.• Always follow the mix ratio found on stabilizercontainer.• Run engine at least 10 minutes after addingstabilizer to allow the stabilizer to reach thecarburetor.• Do not drain the gas tank and carburetor if usingfuel stabilizer. Drain all the oil from thecrankcase (this should be done after the enginehas been operated and is still warm) and refill thecrankcase with fresh oil.Other• Do not store gasoline from one season toanother.• Replace your gasoline can if it starts to rust.• Store unit in a clean, dry area. Do not store nextto corrosive materials, such as fertilizer.• Wipe equipment with an oiled rag to prevent rust.14
