Alwaysstop engine,disconnectsparkplug wire, andground againstenginebefore performing anytype of maintenanceon your machine.General RecommendationsAlwaysobservesafetyruleswhenperforminganymaintenance.Thewarrantyonthisedger/trencherdoesnot coveritemsthat havebeensubjectedto operatorabuseor negligence.Toreceivefull valuefromwarranty,operatormustmaintainthe equipmentasinstructedhere.Changingof engine-governedspeedwill voidenginewarranty.All adjustmentsshouldbe checkedat leastonceeachseason.Periodicallycheckall fastenersandmakesurethesearetight.Engine MaintenanceSparkPlugForgoodperformance,the sparkplug mustbe properlygappedandfreeofdeposits.Replacethe sparkplug annually.1. Disconnectthe capfrom the sparkplug,andremoveanydirt from the sparkplugarea.2. Usethe propersizesparkplug wrenchto removethe sparkplug.NOTE:Replacewith aChampionRC12YCsparkplug.3. Checkthe gap(A)with a wiregauge(B).SeeFigure14.Sparkpluggapshouldbe0.020in (0.51mm).If necessary,resetthe gap.4. Installandtightenthe sparkplugto the recommendedtorque(180Ib-in [20Nm]).5. Attachthe sparkplug capto the sparkplug.Air CleanerAdirty air cleanerwill restrictairflow to thecarburetorandcausepoorengineperformance.Inspectthe filter eachtime the engineisoperated.Youwill needtocleanthe filter morefrequentlyif youoperatethe engineinverydustyareas.Cleanthe air cleanerevery25hoursofoperationor oncea season.Replacethe aircleanerannually.Neverstart or run the engine with the air cleanerassemblyor the air filterremoved.NOTE:Donot usepressurizedairor solventsto cleanthe filter. Pressurizedair candamagethefilter andsolventswill dissolvethe filter.Theaircleanersystemusesafoamelementthat canbewashedandreused.1. Openthecover(B)andremovethe foamelement((). SeeFigure15.2.
