Allowtheengineadequatetime to cool. Drainfuel intoan approvedcontaineroutdoors, awayfromopen flame.• Drainany largevolumeof fuelfrom the tank by disconnectingthefuelline from the in-linefuel filter near theengine.• Removethefuel line from the In-lineside (sidetowardsthe fueltank) of thefuel filter.• Replacementparts mustbe the same and installedin the samepositionas the originalparts.• If fuelspills, wait until itevaporatesbeforestartingengine.• Beforereplacingthe fuel filter, drain the fueltank. Otherwise, fuelcan leakoutand causea fireor explosion. To DrainThe Fuel:1. Locatethe fuelfilter, whichisroutedon theleftsideof theenginebetweenthefuel tankand thecarburetor, and may be attachedtothe enginewitha tie strap.Cutthe tie strap, ifpresent, thenpinchthe in-lineclampon the fuelfilterwitha pair ofpliers, slidetheclampup the fuelline.Pullthefuel linefreefromthe filterandplacethe openend ofthe lineintoan approvedcontainerto drainthe fuel.To ChangeThe FuelFilter:2. Usepliersto squeezethetabs on the otherclamp(the out-linesideof the fuelfilter),and slidetheclamp awayfrom thefuel filter.Twistand pull the fuel line off of the fuel filter.See Fig. 30.3.
