GROOVING, FLUTING, AND VEINING(FIGS. 33 AND 34)j __WARNING I Disconnect the router from thepower supply before makingadjustments or changing accessories. Suchprecautionary safety measures reduce the riskof unintentional tool operation.NOTE: if the jointing shim is installed, remove it beforeproceeding. When performing these routing operations, the useof featherboards and a push shoe is recommended. For best results and maximum accuracy, the side of theworkpiece that will be against the fence must be squareand straight.1. Install the desired end-cutting bit in the router.2. Follow the instructions on page 28 to set the desireddepth of cut (location of cut) and height of cut(Fig. 33). Make sure that the fence and routerare SECURELY in place.iMPORTANT: For deep cuts, do not try to cut the totaldepth (controlled by the router bit height) all in onepass. Repeat the cut, taking smaller cuts untilthe desired depth is reached.3. Position both fence facings so that they providecontinuous support of the workpiece.4. Tighten the four clamping knobs holding the fencefacings in place.5. Position the featherboards, if desired. See ROUTINGUSING FEATHERBOARDS on page 27.6. Remove the board from the table and make sure thatthe guard is in place.NOTE: When making adjustments, use a piece ofscrap wood to make trial cuts before making the cutwith the actual workpiece.7. Make sure that both the router and switch box areOFF; then plug the router into the switch box.8. While firmly holding a piece of scrap wood against thefence and down against the router table, feed a pieceof scrap wood toward the bit in the direction shownby the arrow in Fig. 34.9. Using the switch box, turn the router OFR If anyadjustments are needed, unplug the power cordand repeat steps 2-8 until all adjustments are correct.Once you are satisfied with all settings, make the cutwith the actual workpiece.Fig. 33Fig. 34Location of cutFencefacingEnd cuttingHeightof cutGuard not shown for clarity32
