25Preparing the Camera, Basic FunctionsAttaching the Lens HoodWhen shooting backlit scenes without a flash with the lens set to awide angle, you should attach the lens hood to prevent light outsidethe scene from coming into the lens. Be sure to turn off the camerabefore you attach the lens hood.Attaching the Filter AdapterIf you wish to attach a commercially available filter (58 mmdiameter), attach the filter adapter in advance. Be sure to turn off thecamera before you attach the filter adapter.Attach the lens hood so thatits z meets the lens’ z,then turn the lens hoodclockwise until the lens’ zmeets .z If you use the built-in flash when the lens hood is attached, aportion of the image appears to be blocked by the lens hood andappears dark.Attach the filter adapter sothat its z meets the lens’ z,then turn the filter adapterclockwise until the lens’ zmeets .z The filter adapter is exclusively for use with a filter.
