88 TroubleshootingCannot Print Properly from a Digital CameraThe following are the possible errors that may occur when printing directly from a digital still cameraor digital video camcorder*, and the actions to resolve them.* Hereafter, the digital still cameras and digital video camcorders are collectively referred to as“digital camera” or “camera”.Notez PictBridge compatible digital cameras can be connected to your machine for direct printing.z This section describes errors that are indicated on Canon-brand PictBridge compatible cameras. Theerror messages and operations may vary depending on the camera you are using. If you are using anon-Canon PictBridge compatible camera and not sure how to dismiss the printer error message fromthe camera, check the error message displayed on the LCD and dismiss the error message. For detailson dismissing an error message from the machine, see “Error Message Is Displayed on the LCD” onpage 68.z A communication time out occurs if printing takes a long time or if it takes too much time to send data.This may cancel printing. In such cases, disconnect the cable between the machine and the camera,and then reconnect it. Turn the camera on if it does not turn on automatically. If the problem is still notresolved, select a different photo and check if it can be printed.z Your PictBridge compatible device may need to be switched to printing mode before it is connected tothe machine, depending on the model of the camera. Also, it may need to be turned on manually orswitched to playback mode after connected to the machine. Refer to your camera’s instruction manualand take perform necessary operation before connection.z The print head nozzles may be clogged if printing becomes faint or colors are incorrect. See “WhenPrinting Becomes Faint or Colors Are Incorrect” on page 52.z If the paper is curled or its surface is scratched during printing, make sure that you are using the correcttype of paper. If the problem is not resolved by using the correct type of paper, turn on the Preventpaper abrasion function. See “Printing on thick paper.” on page 76.z For the errors indicated on the camera and their solution, also refer to your camera’s instructionmanual. For details on other troubles with a digital camera, contact the manufacturer of the camera.Error Message On Camera Action“Printer in use” The machine is busy, perhaps processing a print job from the computer.Wait until printing is complete. If the machine is warming up, wait until the warm-up is complete. When it is ready, the machine starts printing your print jobautomatically.“No paper” Load paper in the paper source, or press the Paper Feed Switch to select thepaper source where you have loaded paper (the Auto Sheet Feeder or theCassette), and select Continue*1 in the display on your camera.“Paper Error” z The page size that cannot be fed from the Cassette is selected. Load paperin the Auto Sheet Feeder, press the Paper Feed Switch to select the AutoSheet Feeder as the paper source, and try printing again.For details, see “Changing the Paper Source” on page 14.z If the Paper Output Tray is closed, open it. The machine resumes printing. Ifthe Inner Cover is open, close it and select Stop in the display on yourcamera to stop printing.“Paper jam” Select Stop in the display on your camera to stop printing.Remove the jammed paper, load new paper, press the OK button on themachine, and reprint.“Printer cover open” Close the Scanning Unit (Printer Cover) on the machine.“No Print Head” The Print Head is not installed or is defective.Follow the directions described in the Easy Setup Instructions to install the PrintHead.If the Print Head is already installed, remove the Print Head and then reinstall it.If the error is still not resolved, the Print Head may be damaged.
