Check to make sure the laser on/off switch (A) is inthe OFF (0) position.2. Insert a coin or slotted screwdriver into the slot inthe battery compartment door (E). Stack the threeLR44 batteries (included) into the battery compartmentwith the positive (+) flat side facing up. See figure 1.3. Close the battery door making sure that it “clicks”closed.WARNING: The batteries used in this device maypresent a risk of fire or chemical burn if mistreated. Toreduce this risk:• Do not recharge, disassemble, incinerate orexpose to high temperatures.• Replace batterieswith model LR44 only. Use of another battery maypresent a risk of fire or explosion. • Dispose of used battery promptly per local codes. •Keep away from children. • Do not disassemble or short terminals. • Do not mix old andnew batteries. Replace all of them at the same time with new batteries of the samebrand and type.• Remove batteries if the device will not be used for several months.Transporting batteries can possibly cause fires if the battery terminals inadvertently come incontact with conductive materials such as keys, coins, hand tools and the like. The USDepartment of Transportation Hazardous Material Regulations (HMR) actually prohibittransporting batteries in commerce or on airplanes (i.e. packed in suitcases and carryonluggage) UNLESS they are properly protected from short circuits. So when transportingindividual batteries, make sure that the battery terminals are protected and well insulatedfrom materials that could contact them and cause a short circuit.OperationWARNING: Always use proper eye protection.To turn the laser on, push the laser on/off switch(A) forward to the (I) position. To turn the laser off,push back on the switch to the (0) position. Thelaser can be positioned on either side of the tapemeasure. To rotate 180 degrees, turn the laser asshown in figure 3.EXTENDING AND RETRACTING THE TAPETo extend the tape (G), pull it out to the desiredlength.To retract the tape, push in on the tape releasebutton (B). The speed that the tape is retractedcan be controlled by releasing the button andthen pressing it in again.CAUTION: To prevent injury avoid “fullspeed” blade return.USING THE TAPE AND LASER TOGETHER1.) Extend the measuring tape and position theunit on the edge of the item that you will bemeasuring.2.) Extend the the “leg” as shown in figure 4 andhold it firmly against the edge of the worksurface..3.) Turn the laser on (figure 5). With the laser lineprojected across the measuring tape, adjust thetape to the distance that you require.4.) Mark the surface along the laser line with apencil.5.) When making a measurement to the rear ofthe tape housing, add 4" (102mm) as shown inFigure 6.CALIBRATIONThe BDTM250 Laser Tape Measure is calibratedat the manufacturing plant. However, if the unit isdropped or receives a hard blow it may need tobe recalibrated. Should you find that the laser lineneeds to be adjusted, follow the steps below:1.) Lay a carpenter's square on your worksurface with the short side of the square alongthe edge of your work surface.2.) Extend the tape out about 12 inches. Extendthe 'leg' and hold it firmly against the short side ofthe square.3.) Turn the laser on making sure the laser linewill be projected in the same direction as thesquare that is on your workpiece.4.) Turn the calibration screw shown in figure 7.( Clockwise adjusts the line toward the rear of theunit. Counter-clockwise adjusts the line towardthe front of the unit.)
