R5906150 /02 XDL 11Users definitionThroughout this manual, the term SERVICE PERSONNEL refers to persons having appropriate technicaltraining and experience necessary to be knowledgeable of potential hazards to which they are exposed(including, but not limited to HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRIC and ELECTRONIC CIRCUITRY and HIGHBRIGHTNESS PROJECTORS) in performing a task, and of measures to minimize the potential risk tothemselves or other persons. The term USER and OPERATOR refers to any person other than SERVICEPERSONNEL, AUTHORIZED to operate professional projection systems. The XDL projector is intended "FOR PROFESSIONAL USE ONLY" by AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL familiarwith potential hazards associated with high voltage, high intensity light beams and high temperaturesgenerated by the light source and associated circuits. Only qualified SERVICE PERSONNEL, knowledgeableof such risks, are allowed to perform service functions inside the product enclosure.1.2 Safety training to be provided by the installerUsers definitionThe XDL projector is intended for persons who have been instructed and trained by a skilled person (installeror service personnel) to identify energy sources that may cause injury and to take precautions to avoidunintentional contact with or exposure to those energy sources. The skilled person must instruct the user about:• High intensity light beam. The user must respect the exclusion zone, based on the light beam HazardDistance (HD).• Dangerous energy sources inside the projector. The user is not allowed to remove any cover from theprojector.• The installation, maintenance or service is for skilled persons only.• The requirements for a restricted access location, an exclusion zone and a restriction zone.Restricted access locationTo protect untrained persons and children, the projector must be installed in a restricted access location. The definition of a restricted access location is a location for equipment where both of the followingparagraphs apply:• Access can only be gained by skilled persons (installer or service personnel) or persons who have beeninstructed and trained by a skilled person. The persons must have been instructed about the reasons forthe restriction applied to the location and about the precautions that shall be taken.• Access is only possible through the use of the tool or lock and key, or other means of security, and iscontrolled by the authority responsible for the location. Why a restricted access location: this is an RG3 product. Based on international requirements, no person isallowed to enter the projected beam within the zone between the projection lens and the related HazardDistance (HD). This shall be physically impossible by creating sufficient separation height and width or byplacing optional barriers. Within the restricted area operator training is considered sufficient. The applicableseparation heights and widths are discussed in “High Brightness precautions: Hazard Distance (HD)”, page17.Exclusion zoneThe projector radiates heat on its external surfaces and from ventilation ducts during normal operation.Exposing flammable or combustible materials into close proximity of this projector could result in thespontaneous ignition of that material, resulting in a fire. For this reason, it is absolutely necessary to leave anexclusion zone around all external surfaces of the projector whereby no flammable or combustible materialsare present:• The exclusion zone must not be less than 40 cm (16 in).Restriction zoneTo protect untrained users and children against high intensity light beams, the light beam Hazard Distance(HD) shall be taken into account.Safety
