218Basic Font Creator OperationsThe Design PageguidelinesThe standard guidelines for creating fonts areshown in the Design Pages. The contents of each ofthe guidelines are as shown below.(A) Base LineThis line is the reference for positioning thefont character.Normally, from this line to the Capital Line willbe the font height. This line cannot be moved.(B) Capital LineThe font’s standard height will be from theBase Line to this line. This line cannot bemoved.(C) Mean LineWhen in lower case, the standard height of thefont will be from the Base Line to this line. Itcan be moved by dragging the triangle icon onthe right edge.(D) Descender LineThis line is the standard for characters withparts that hang down (descenders) such as“g” and “y”. It can be moved by dragging thetriangle icon on the right edge.(E) Ascender LineThis line is the standard for characters withparts that extended above (ascenders) suchas the accent mark. It can be moved bydragging the triangle icon on the right edge.(F/G) Set LineThis line will be the font width. The font widthcan be adjusted by dragging the triangle iconon the bottom edge.(E) Ascender Line(B) Capital Line(C) Mean Line(A) Base Line(D) Descender Line(G) Set Line(F) Set Line Triangle iconb Memo:• The heights and widths specified for theBase Line, Capital Line and Set Lines arethe reference mask for creating the fontcharacter.• When characters created with Font Creatorare imported into Layout & Editing, thewidth and height of the characters will be inthe following area.• Character height: from Base Line (A) toCapital Line (B)• Character width: from Set Line (F) toSet Line (G)• In order to align the height of the characters,the Ascender Line, Mean Line andDescender Line appear the same with allcharacters. Therefore, if the height of any ofthese lines is changed, the setting ismaintained, even when a different characteris selected to be edited.• The widths of the Set Lines can be setseparately for each character.
