Chapter 328 SpaceLink Access PointChapter 3 - SpaceLink Access Point ManagerIP ConfigThe SpaceLink Access PointManager has many smart featuresincluding:• The SpaceLink Access Point canreceive a dynamic IP address froma network DHCP (Dynamic HostConfiguration Protocol) server.• The SpaceLink Access Point canbe assigned a static IP address viathe SpaceLink Access PointManager.• The SpaceLink Access Point Manager will automatically add or modifythe subnet mask according to the IP address class A, B, or C when theuser changes the IP address of the SpaceLink Access Point.• The SpaceLink Access Point Manager will ping the IP address beforeapplying the user-defined IP address to the SpaceLink Access Point.• The SpaceLink Access Point Manager will warn when changing to adifferent subnet IP address (not supported in NT4).Note: Normally, the SpaceLink Access Point needs about 3 sec-onds to bootup when there is a successful IP address. If you select“Obtain an IP address automatically” and there is no DHCP serveron the network, the bootup time of the SpaceLink Access Point willbe 25 seconds. After this timeout period, the SpaceLink AccessPoint will use the last successful IP address. The SpaceLink Ac-cess Point Manager will not be able to connect to the SpaceLinkAccess Point until this lengthy bootup is completed.Obtain an IP address automaticallyThis parameter determines if the SpaceLink Access Point will send out aDHCP request during bootup. If you have a DHCP server on the network, set this option so that the SpaceLink Access Point can receive an automaticIP address assignment. Choose the request method either through thephysically connected “Ethernet” cable or “Wireless”.
