2-4 C HAPTER 2: I NSTALLATION AND S ETUPInstalling the Switch 1000Rack MountingThe Switch is 1.5U high and fits in most standard19-inch racks.CAUTION: Disconnect all cables from the Switchbefore continuing. Remove all self adhesive padsfrom the underside of the unit, if fitted.1 Place the unit the right way up on a hard flat sur-face, with the front facing towards you.2 Locate a mounting bracket over the mountingholes on one side of the unit, as shown inFigure 2-2.Figure 2-2 Fitting a bracket for rack mounting3 Insert the three screws and fully tighten with a suit-able screwdriver.4 Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the other side of the unit.5 Insert the unit into the 19-inch rack and secure withsuitable screws (not provided). Ensure that ventila-tion holes are not obstructed.6 Connect network cabling.Stacking the Switch and Other UnitsIf the units are free standing, up to four units canbe placed on top of one another. If mixing a varietyof SuperStack II Switch and Hub units, the smallerunits must be positioned at the top.The Switch is supplied with four self-adhesive rubberpads. Apply the pads to the underside of the unit,stick one in the marked area at each corner of theunit. Place the units on top of each other, ensuringthat the pads of the upper unit line up with therecesses of the lower unit.
