Do not place propane supply tank(s) in-side any structure. Locate propane sup-ply tank(s) outdoors.3. This heater shall not be installed in abedroom or bathroom unless installedas a vented appliance (see InstallingDamper Clamp Accessory for VentedOperation, page 10).6. Never install the heater• in a recreational vehicle• where curtains, furniture, clothing, orother flammable objects are less than42 inches from the front, top, or sidesof the heater• in high traffic areas• in windy or drafty areas7. Before installing in a solid fuel burningfireplace, the chimney flue and fireboxmust be cleaned of soot, creosote, ashes andloose paint by a qualified chimney cleaner.Creosote will ignite if highly heated. In-spect chimney flue for damage. If damaged,operate heater with flue damper closed.8. If fireplace has glass doors, never oper-ate this heater with glass doors closed. Ifyou operate heater with doors closed, heatbuildup inside fireplace will cause glassto burst. Also if fireplace opening hasvents at the bottom, you must open thevents before operating heater.9. You must operate this heater with a fire-place screen in place. Make sure fireplacescreen is closed while running heater.10. This log heater is designed to be smoke-less. If logs ever appear to smoke, turn offheater and call a qualified service person.Note: During initial operation, slightsmoking could occur due to log curing andheater burning manufacturing residues.11. To prevent the creation of soot, followthe instructions in Cleaning and Main-tenance, page 18.12. Do not allow fans to blow directly into thefireplace. Avoid any drafts that alter burnerflame patterns. Ceiling fans can create draftsthat alter burner flame patterns. Alteredburner patterns can cause sooting.13. Before using furniture polish, wax, car-pet cleaner, or similar products, turnheater off. If heated, the vapors fromthese products may create a white pow-der residue within burner box or on ad-jacent walls or furniture.14. Do not use a blower insert, heat ex-changer insert or other accessory not ap-proved for use with this heater.15. This heater needs fresh, outside air ven-tilation to run properly. This heater hasan oxygen depletion sensor (ODS) pi-lot light safety system. The ODS shutsdown the heater if not enough fresh airis available. See Air for Combustion andVentilation, pages 4 through 6. If heaterkeeps shutting off, see Troubleshooting,pages 17 through 19.16. Do not run heater• where flammable liquids or vapors areused or stored• under dusty conditions17. Do not use this heater to cook food orburn paper or other objects.18. Never place any objects on the heater.19. Heater base assembly becomes very hotwhen running heater. Keep children andadults away from hot surface to avoidburns or clothing ignition. Heater willremain hot for a time after shutdown.Allow surface to cool before touching.20. Carefully supervise young childrenwhen they are in the room with heater.When using the hand-held remote ac-cessory, keep selector switch in the OFFposition to prevent children from turn-ing on burner with remote.21. Do not use heater if any part has beenexposed to or under water. Immediatelycall a qualified service technician to in-spect the room heater and to replace anypart of the control system and any gascontrol which has been under water.22. Do not operate heater if any log is bro-ken. Do not operate heater if a log ischipped (dime-sized or larger).23. Turn heater off and let cool before ser-vicing, installing, or repairing. Make surethe selector switch is in the OFF posi-tion. Only a qualified service personshould install, service, or repair heater.24. Make sure the selector switch is in theOFF position when you are away fromhome for long periods of time.25. Operating heater above elevations of4,500 feet could cause pilot outage.
