Operation of im-properly installed and maintainedventing system could result inserious injury, property damage,or loss of life.NOTICE: Failure to follow theseinstructions will void the warranty.WARNING: This gas stove withburner system and vent assemblymust be vented directly to the out-side. The venting system mustNEVER be attached to a chimneyserving a separate solid fuel burn-ing appliance.The following actions will void the war-ranty on your venting system:• Installation of any damaged ventingcomponent• Unauthorized modification of the vent-ing system• Installation of any component part notmanufactured or approved by DESAInternational• Installation other than as instructed bythese instructionsYour Vanguard stove with B-vent burnersystem is approved for use with any listedgas vent. A listed gas vent is a factory madeand listed system designed, and installedexclusively for removing products of com-bustion, excess air, and dilution air resultingfrom burning fuel gas. Metal vents, the mostcommon type of vent, employ double wallconstruction enclosing an insulating airspace. This air space both helps keep fluegases warm and reduce heat transferred tonearby combustibles. This appliance isequipped with a safety control system de-signed to protect against improper ventingof combustion products.It is very important that the venting systemmaintain its balance between the combus-tion air intake and the flue gas exhaust.Certain limitations apply to vent configura-tions and must be strictly followed.5. Connect one terminal of the wire fromON/OFF switch to the THTP terminalon the valve. Connect remaining wireterminal to the TH terminal on thevalve. Make sure that the wire termi-nals are in the positions on the unit aspictured in Figure 20. If wires are notconnected as shown, the ON/OFFswitch will not work.Figure 21 - Typical B-Vent InstallationTYPE B-VENT INSTALLATION(Listed B-0 or Greater)Before beginning installation be sure that theoverall height and gas vent size conform tobuilding code requirements. Consult your local authority for re-quirement in your area.• Where the gas vent extends through ac-cessible spaces, it should be enclosed toavoid personal contact and damage. En-closure walls should have a fire ratingequal to or greater than the floors throughwhich the gas vent passes except in singleor two-family dwellings.• Situate the gas vent in the structure sothat it can be installed without cuttingjoists, sills, plates, or major load bearingpartitions or members. It is also impor-tant to locate the base of the gas vent asnear as possible to the heating appliance.• This burner system must be properly con-nected to a venting system. This burnersystem is equipped with a vent safetyshutoff system.• Use only vents labeled "FOR EXTE-RIOR USE" above the roofline.• Consult the authority having jurisdiction toselect the correct gas vent diameter.
