After adjusting the burner sys-tem and lighting the main burners, allow acouple of minutes for warm-up. Hold alighted match just under the rim of the drafthood relief opening. Proper venting willdraw the flame toward or into the draft hood.Improper venting, indicated by escape orspillage of burned gas, will cause match toflicker or go out. Smoke from a cigarettewill also be pulled into the draft hood if thevent is drawing properly.Figure 25 - Test for Proper VentingINSTALLING VENT SYSTEMIN A CHASEA chase is a vertical box-like structure builtto enclose venting that runs along the out-side of a building. A chase is not required forsuch venting.NOTICE: Treatment of firestopsand construction of the chasemay vary from building type tobuilding type. These instructionsare not substitutes for the re-quirements of local buildingcodes. You must follow all localbuilding codes.Note: When installing in a chase, you shouldinsulate the chase as you would the outsidewalls of your home. This is especially im-portant in cold climates.
