8. Leave the throttle midway between the SLOWand FAST positions until the engine and thehydraulic system warm up.Important: When you start the engine forthe first time, change the engine oil, oroverhaul the engine, transmission, or wheelmotor, operate the machine with the throttlelever in the SLOW position in both the forwardand reverse directions for 1 to 2 minutes. Also, operate the lift lever and PTO lever toensure that all parts are operating properly. Then shut off the engine and check the fluidlevels, check for oil leaks, loose parts, andany other problems.Shutting Off the Engine1. Park the machine on a level surface.2. Disengage the PTO, make sure that the tractionpedal is in the NEUTRAL position, engage theparking brake, and move the engine-speedswitch to the idle position.3. Let the engine idle for 60 seconds.4. Turn the key to the OFF position.5. Remove the key to prevent the engine fromaccidentally starting and before you transportor store the machine.Note: Remove the key; otherwise, the fuelpump or accessories may run and cause thebattery to lose charge.CAUTIONChildren or bystanders may be injuredif they move or attempt to operate themachine while it is unattended.Always remove the key and engage theparking brake when leaving the machineunattended, even for a short period oftime between operation.Driving the MachineThe throttle control regulates the engine speed asmeasured in rpm (revolutions per minute). Placethe throttle control in the FAST position for bestperformance. Always operate the throttle in the FASTposition when mowing.Stopping the MachineTo stop the machine, release the traction pedal to theNEUTRAL position.Engage the parking brake whenever you leave themachine and remove the key.Selecting the SteeringModeFor maximum trimming and minimum turf damage, operate the machine in the 4-wheel-steering mode. However, when transporting the machine on roads ortrails, switch the machine into 2-wheel-steering mode.g014390Figure 211.
