Clean the inside of the air-cleaner cover withcompressed air.8. Gently slide the primary filter out of theair-cleaner body (Figure 34).Note: Avoid knocking the filter into the side ofthe body.9. Remove the inner filter only if you intend toreplace it.Important: Never attempt to clean the innerfilter. If the safety filter is dirty, then theprimary filter is damaged. Inspect the primary filter for damage by lookinginto the filter, while shining a bright light on theoutside of the filter.Note: Holes in the filter will appear as brightspots. If the filter is damaged, discard it.Servicing the Primary Filter• If the primary filter is dirty, bent, or damaged,replace it.• Do not clean the primary filter.Servicing the Safety FilterReplace the safety filter, never clean it.Important: Do not attempt to clean the safetyfilter. If the safety filter is dirty, then the primaryfilter is damaged. Replace both filters.Installing the FiltersImportant: To prevent engine damage, alwaysoperate the engine with both air filters and thecover installed.1. If installing new filters, check each filter forshipping damage.Note: Do not use a damaged filter.2. If the inner filter is being replaced, carefully slideit into the filter body (Figure 34).3. Carefully slide the primary filter over the innerfilter (Figure 34).29 |
