Change the Gearbox OilService Interval: After the first 50 hours—Change oil in all3 gearbox housings. Add oil as neededuntil level with oil-drain plug.Every 100 hours—Change oil in all 3 gearboxhousings. Add oil as needed until it is level with theoil-drain plug.1. Place the machine on a level surface.2. Shut off the engine, wait for all moving parts to stop, remove the key, and engage the parking brake.3. Remove the gearbox and drive shaft assembly from themower deck. Retain the hardware for use later.4. Remove the large oil drain plug on the front of each ofthe three gearbox sections and drain the oil (Figure 35).Figure 351. Small magnetic plugs(front and back)3. Small magnetic plug (frontonly)2. Large oil drain/fill plug5. Remove the small magnetic plugs and wipe away anymaterial accumulated on the plugs.6. Apply a Teflon® pipe sealant to all small magnetic plugsand install them into the gearbox.7. Install the gearbox and drive shaft assembly to themower deck.8. Fill the gearbox with Mobil® SHC (synthetic) 75W-90gear lube oil until level with oil drain/fill plug.Note: Each of the gearbox sections must be filledseparately.Note: Keep the mower deck level to the ground whenfilling the gearbox with oil. Do not fill the gearbox withthe mower deck raised in the service position.9. Apply a Teflon pipe sealant to the 3 large oil plugs andinstall them into the gearbox.Engine MaintenanceWARNINGContact with hot surfaces may cause personalinjury.Keep hands, feet, face, clothing, and other bodyparts away the muffler and other hot surfaces.Servicing the Air CleanerService Interval: Every 150 hoursEvery 250 hours/Yearly (whichever comesfirst)—Replace the primary air filter and checkthe safety air filter (more often in dusty or sandyconditions).Every 500 hours—Replace the safety air filter.Note: Check the filters more frequently if the operatingconditions are extremely dusty or sandy.Removing the Filters1. Move the speed control lever to the NEUTRAL positionto stop the machine.2. Disengage the PTO, engage the parking brake, stop theengine, and wait for all moving parts to stop.3. For access to the bottom latch, remove the bolt, openthe clamp, and raise the air cleaner (Figure 36).Figure 361. Bolt and clamp4. Release the latches on the air cleaner and pull theair-cleaner cover off the air-cleaner body (Figure 37).5. Clean the inside of the air-cleaner cover withcompressed air.6. Gently slide the primary filter out of the air-cleanerbody (Figure 37).Note: Avoid knocking the filter into the side of thebody.33
