Mower DeckMaintenanceLeveling the Mower DeckSetting Up the MachineNote: Ensure that the mower deck is leveled beforematching the height of cut (HOC).1. Position the machine on a flat surface.2. Move the speed control lever to the neutral positionto stop the machine.3. Disengage the PTO, engage the parking brake, stop theengine, and wait for all moving parts to stop.4. Check the tire pressure of the drive tires. If needed, adjust the pressure to 103 kPa (15 psi)Deck Leveling1. Stop the machine and move the speed control lever tothe neutral position.2. Disengage the PTO, engage the parking brake, stop theengine, and wait for all moving parts to stop.3. Verify all hairpin cotter pins are in the 7.62 cm (3 inch)mower deck height holes with the spacers under thehairpin cotter pins (Figure 63).Figure 63Right Hand Side Shown1. Hairpin cotter pin 3. Shorten or lengthen each mower deck support pin toobtain blade tip height of 7.62 cm (3 inches) at thefront of the deck and 8.26 cm (3 1/4 inches) at the rearof the deck (Figure 63).Note: The front pins are thread into the mower deckand have a jam nut. The rear pins have a rod endthreaded into them with a jam nut.Servicing the Cutting BladesMaintain sharp blades throughout the cutting season, becausesharp blades cut cleanly without tearing or shredding the grassblades. Tearing and shredding turns grass brown at the edges, which slows growth and increases the chance of disease.Check the cutter blades daily for sharpness, and for anywear or damage. File down any nicks and sharpen theblades as necessary. If a blade is damaged or worn, replaceit immediately with a genuine Toro replacement blade. Forconvenient sharpening and replacement, you may want tokeep extra blades on hand.DANGERA worn or damaged blade can break, and a pieceof the blade could be thrown into the operator'sor bystander's area, resulting in serious personalinjury or death.• Inspect the blade periodically for wear ordamage.• Replace a worn or damaged blade. Before Inspecting or Servicing theBladesPark the machine on a level surface, disengage the bladecontrol switch (PTO), and set the parking brake. Turn theignition key to Off. Remove the key.Inspecting the BladesService Interval: Before each use or daily1. Lift the mower deck and secure in the raised position.Refer to Raising the Mower Deck into Service Position(page 20).2. Inspect the cutting edges (Figure 64). If the edgesare not sharp or have nicks, remove and sharpen theblades. Refer to Sharpening the Blades.3. Inspect the blades, especially the curved area (Figure64). If you notice any damage, wear, or a slot formingin this area (Figure 64), immediately install a new blade.Figure 641. Cutting edge 3. Wear/slot forming2. Curved area 4. Crack49
