CleaningWashing the Underside ofthe MowerAfter each use, wash the underside of the mowerto prevent grass buildup for improved mulchingaction and clipping dispersal.1. Park the tractor on a hard level surface.2. Disengage the blade (PTO).3. Stop the engine and wait for all moving partsto stop.4. Remove the ignition key.5. Attach the coupling to the end of the mowerwashout fitting and turn the water on high(Figure 50).Figure 501. Washout tting 3. Hose2. Coupling (not supplied)Note: Spread petroleum jelly on the washoutfitting o-ring to make the coupling slide oneasier and to protect the o-ring.6. Lower the mower to the lowest height of cut.7. Sit on the seat and start the engine.8. Engage the blade (PTO) and let the mowerrun for 1 to 3 minutes.9. Disengage the blade (PTO).10. Stop the engine and wait for all moving partsto stop.11. Remove the ignition key.12. Turn off the water and remove the couplingfrom the washout fitting.Note: If the mower is not clean after washingit, soak it and let it stand for 30 minutes. Thenrepeat the process.13. Run the mower again for 1 to 3 minutes toremove the excess water.A broken or missing washout fittingcould expose you and others to thrownobjects or to blade contact. Contact withthe blade or thrown debris may causeinjury or death.• Replace the broken or missingwashout fitting immediately beforeusing the mower again.• Plug any holes in the mower withbolts and locknuts.• Never put your hands or feet underthe mower or through openings inthe mower.37
