If the space between the coils is not 0.010 in.(0.25 mm), adjust the cables as follows:A. Loosen the upper jam nut that secures theauger/impeller cable to the mounting bracket(Fig. 28).B. Rotate the bottom jam nut upward to increase thebelt tension.C. Tighten the upper jam nut against the bracket.7. Repeat steps 4 through 6.8. Check the impeller brake arm clearance by releasing theauger/impeller drive control lever.Note: With the lever released, there should be at least1/8 in. (3 mm) clearancebetween the tab on the impeller idler arm and the brakearm, replace the belt. Refer to Replacing the Drive Belts onpage 21.DangerImproperly adjusting the auger/impeller drive beltmay cause injury if the auger/impeller continues toturn after you release the control lever. A rotatingimpeller or auger can cut off or injure fingers orhands.• Keep your face, hands, feet, and any other partof your body or clothing away from moving orrotating parts.• Maintain the proper impeller brake armclearance.• Do not adjust the auger/impeller drive belt tootightly. If the auger/impeller continues to turnafter you release the control lever, decrease thebelt tension.9. Install the belt and the cable covers.10. Check the belt tension by operating the auger/impeller.11. If belt still slips, replace it. Refer to Replacing theDrive Belts on page 21.12. Connect the wire to the spark plug.Replacing the Drive BeltsIf the auger/impeller drive belt or the traction drive belt(Fig. 31) becomes worn, oil-soaked, or otherwise damaged,replace the belt.1876542 3 185Figure 311.
