Replace the safety filter with anew one after every three primary filter services.Figure 581. Safety filter3. Replace the primary filter (Figure 57).4. Insert the new filter by applying pressure to the outerrim of the element to seat it in the canister. Do notapply pressure to the flexible center of the filter.5. Clean the dirt ejection port located in the removablecover. Remove the rubber outlet valve from thecover, clean the cavity and replace the outlet valve.6. Install the cover orienting the rubber outlet valve(Figure 57) in a downward position - betweenapproximately 5:00 to 7:00 when viewed from theend. Secure the latch.Servicing the Engine OilChecking the Engine Oil LevelService Interval: Before each use or daily—Check theengine oil level.The engine is shipped with oil in the crankcase; however,the oil level must be checked before and after the engineis first started.The crankcase capacity is 8.5 qt (8.04 l) with the filter.Use high-quality engine oil that meets the followingspecifications:• API Classification Level Required: CH-4, CI-4 orhigher.• Preferred oil: SAE 15W-40 (above 0°F)• Alternate oil: SAE 10W-30 (below 23°F)Toro Premium Engine Oil is available from yourdistributor in either 15W-40 or 10W-30 viscosity. Seethe parts catalog for part numbers. Also, refer to theEngine Operator’s Manual, included with the machine, forfurther recommendations.Note: The best time to check the engine oil is when theengine is cool before it has been started for the day. If ithas already been run, allow the oil to drain back downto the sump for at least 10 minutes before checking. Ifthe oil level is at or below the ‘add’ mark on the dipstick,add oil to bring the oil level to the ‘full’ mark. Do notoverfill. If the oil level is between the ‘full’ and ‘add’marks, no oil addition is required.1. Park the machine on a level surface.2. Remove the dipstick (Figure 59)., wipe it clean, installthe dipstick into the tube, and pull it out again. Theoil level should be up to the Full mark.46
