• Cleans the engine while it runs• Eliminates gum-like varnish buildup in the fuelsystem, which causes hard startingImportant: Do not use fuel additivescontaining methanol or ethanol.Addthecorrectamountoffuelstabilizer/conditionerto the fuel.Note: A fuel stabilizer/conditioner is mosteffective when mixed with fresh fuel. To minimizethe chance of varnish deposits in the fuel system,use fuel stabilizer at all times.Filling the Fuel Tank1. Park the machine on a level surface, disengagethe cutting blades, stop the engine, wait for allmoving parts to stop, and turn the engine switchto the OFF position.2. Allow the engine to cool.3. Clean around the fuel-tank cap and remove it(Figure 11).Note: The cap is tethered to the fuel tank.g013315Figure 114. Install the fuel-tank cap securely.6. Wipe up any spilled fuel.Starting the Engine1. Move the choke lever to the left if you arestarting a cold engine.2. Move the throttle lever midway between theSLOW (turtle) and FAST (rabbit) positions.Note: A warm or hot engine may not requirechoking.3. Hold down the operator presence bail with onehand.4. Pull the recoil handle sharply to start the engine.5. After the engine starts, gradually move thechoke to the right.Note: If the engine stalls or hesitates, move thechoke left again until the engine warms up.6. Move the throttle lever to the desired setting.Stopping the Engine1. Release the operator-presence bail.2. Close the fuel valve.3. Wait for all moving parts to stop.Operating the Machine1. Move the depth control lever to the desiredsetting.2. Start the engine.3. Push down on the handle to raise the frontwheels off the ground.4. Pull the cutting-blade-control lever to the handle,and slowly lower the front wheels to the ground,allowing the blades to gradually work into thegrass and soil.5. When finished, release the cutting-blade-controllever, shut off the engine, and raise the cuttingblades to the transport setting.Cleaning Debris from theMachineService Interval: Before each use or daily1. Disengage the cutting blades, shut off theengine, wait for all moving parts to stop, and turnthe engine switch to the OFF position.2. Brush dirt and debris away from the air cleanerand engine openings.13
