On left side of the engine, locate the air vent plug ontop of the fuel injection pump and connect a hose to it,leading to a drain pan.6. Open the vent plug and crank the engine until fuelcomes out a steady stream.7. Close the vent plug.8. Close the rear access cover.Draining the Fuel TankDangerIn certain conditions, fuel is extremely flammableand highly explosive. A fire or explosion fromgasoline can burn you and others and can damageproperty.• Drain fuel from the fuel tank when the engine iscold. Do this outdoors in an open area. Wipe upany spills.• Never smoke when draining gasoline, and stayaway from an open flame or where a spark mayignite the fumes.1. Park the traction unit on a level surface, to ensure thatthe fuel tanks drain completely.2. Lower the loader arms and stop the engine. Removethe key.3. Shut off the fuel valve in the hose near the bottom ofthe fuel tank as illustrated in Figure 31.m–560912Figure 311. Fuel valve, open 2. Fuel valve closed4. Open the rear access cover; refer to Opening the RearAccess Cover, page 23.5. Loosen the hose clamp at the fuel filter and slide it upthe fuel line away from the filter.6. Pull the fuel line off of the fuel filter, open the fuelvalve, and allow the fuel to drain into a fuel can ordrain pan.Note: Now is the best time to install a new fuel filterbecause the fuel tank is empty.7. Install the fuel line onto the fuel filter.8. Slide the hose clamp close to the fuel filter to securethe fuel line.9. Close the rear access cover.10. Open the fuel valve in the hose near the bottom of thefuel tank as illustrated in Figure 31.Cleaning and Storage1. Lower the loader arms and stop the engine. Removethe key.2. Remove dirt and grime from the external parts of theentire traction unit, especially the engine. Clean dirtand chaff from the outside of the engine.Important You can wash the traction unit with milddetergent and water. Do not pressure wash the tractionunit. Avoid excessive use of water, especially near thecontrol panel, engine, hydraulic pumps, and motors.3. Service the air cleaner; refer to Servicing the AirCleaner, page 24.
