Caring for the BatteryService Interval: Every 25 hoursThe battery electrolyte level must be properly maintained andthe top of the battery kept clean. lf the machine is stored in alocation where temperatures are extremely high, the batterywill run down more rapidly than if the machine is stored ina location where temperatures are cool.DANGERBattery electrolyte contains sulfuric acid which is adeadly poison and causes severe burns.• Do not drink electrolyte and avoid contact withskin, eyes or clothing. Wear safety glasses toshield your eyes and rubber gloves to protectyour hands.• Fill the battery where clean water is alwaysavailable for flushing the skin.Keep the top of the battery clean by washing it periodicallywith a brush dipped in ammonia or bicarbonate of sodasolution. Flush the top surface with water after cleaning. Donot remove the fill cap while cleaning. The battery cables must be tight on the terminals to providegood electrical contact.WARNINGIncorrect battery cable routing could damage themachine and cables causing sparks. Sparks cancause the battery gasses to explode, resulting inpersonal injury.• Always disconnect the negative (black) batterycable before disconnecting the positive (red)cable.• Always connect the positive (red) battery cablebefore connecting the negative (black) cable. If corrosion occurs at the battery terminals, disconnect thecables, negative (-) cable first, and scrape the clamps andterminals separately. Reconnect the cables, positive (+) cablefirst, and coat the terminals with petroleum jelly.• Check the electrolyte level every 25 operating hours or, ifthe machine is in storage, every 30 days.• Maintain the cell level with distilled or demineralizedwater. Do not fill the cells above the fill line.Drive SystemMaintenanceAdjusting the Traction Drivefor NeutralIf the machine moves when the traction pedal is in the neutralposition, the traction cam must be adjusted.1. Park the machine on a level surface and turn the engineoff.2. Loosen the 2 screws securing the center shroud to themachine and remove the shroud (Figure 32).Figure 321. Center shroud3. Raise the front wheel and one rear wheel off of thefloor and place support blocks under the frame.WARNINGThe front wheeland one rear wheel mustbe raised off the ground or the machine willmove during the adjustment. Make sure themachine is supported so it will not accidentallyfall injuring anyone under the machine.4. Loosen the locknut on the traction adjustment cam(Figure 33).29
