112About the “Memory Stick”A “Memory Stick” is a compact, portableIC recording medium with a large datacapacity.You can use only a “Memory Stick Duo,”which is about the half size of a standard“Memory Stick,” with your camcorder.However, we do not guarantee theoperation of all types of “Memory StickDuo” on your camcorder. (See the listbelow for more details.)• Still image format: Your camcorder compressesand records image data in the JPEG (JointPhotographic Experts Group) format. The fileextension is “.JPG.”• File names of still images:– 101- 0001: This file name appears on thescreen of your camcorder.– DSC00001.JPG: This file name appears onthe display of a computer.• A “Memory Stick Duo” formatted by acomputer (Windows OS/Mac OS) does not haveguaranteed compatibility with your camcorder.• Data read/write speed may vary depending onthe combination of the “Memory Stick” and“Memory Stick” compliant product you use.On a “Memory Stick Duo” with awrite-protect tabYou can prevent accidental erasure ofimages when you slide the write-protect tabon the “Memory Stick Duo” with a smalltapered object, to the write-protect position.Notes on useDamaged or lost image data will not becompensated for, and may occur in thefollowing cases:• If you eject the “Memory Stick Duo,” turn thepower off on your camcorder, or remove thebattery pack for replacement while yourcamcorder is reading or writing image files onthe “Memory Stick Duo” (while the access lampis lit or flashing).• If you use the “Memory Stick Duo” nearmagnets or magnetic fields.It is recommended you make a back-up ofimportant data on the hard disk of acomputer.x On handling a “Memory Stick”Keep the following in mind when handlinga “Memory Stick Duo.”• Be careful not to apply excessive force whenwriting on a memo area on a “Memory StickDuo.”• Do not attach a label or the like on a “MemoryStick Duo” or a Memory Stick Duo adaptor.• When you carry or store a “Memory Stick Duo,”put it in its case.• Do not touch, or allow metallic objects to comeinto contact with the terminals.• Do not bend, drop or apply strong force to the“Memory Stick Duo.”• Do not disassemble or modify the “MemoryStick Duo.”• Do not let the “Memory Stick Duo” get wet.• Be careful to keep “Memory Stick Duo” mediaout of the reach of small children.
