KMS-0021 592022-02-107 RCU CommissioningThe process described in this section assumes the switchgear has already been correctly installedaccording to the relevant instructions [6] [7] [3] . This section covers the on-site configuration of anRCU to couple with the available switchgear overhead using the RCU Connect PC application. Theoverall process consists of four steps:1 The user completes the RCU configuration template form (KMS-3100) and sends this toSiemens. There are different versions of this form for Fusesaver and CMR installations.2 Siemens creates two files and returns these to the user.3 The user loads these files into the RCU Connect PC application.4 The user chooses configuration settings for each site and loads these into the RCU usingRCU Connect.Configuration of an RCU is carried out wirelessly using the RCU Connect PC application and a USBantenna (the same one as used by PC utilities (Siemens Connect/CMRConnect) to communicatewith switchgear). Before this wireless connection is possible, eithero the operator must open the door of the RCU enclosure releasing the door switch.o the SCADA master must send an “Enable ANT Radio” control. This enables a 10 minute window during which wireless short range connection can be made to theRCU with RCU ConnectIt is advised to connect the USB antenna to the PC using a short USB extension cable so the antennacan be placed away from the body of the Notebook computer and pointed towards the RCU.This section will explain how to do the following:1 Use RCU Connect to create and maintain templates for various installation scenarios, including setting up the protocol mapping2 Use RCU Connect to enter the required information for deployment at a site, and sendthis information to the Remote Control Unit3 Use RCU Connect to check the operation of a Remote Control Unit once configuredNoteRadio communication between the RCU and RCU Connectrunning on a PC can be disrupted by metal objects adjacent tothe USB antenna such as the body of the Notebook computeror an adjacent USB memory stick. Keep metal objects away from the RCU and USBantenna. Do not stand immediately below the RCU as the signalsmay be blocked by the metal cabinet. If the radio connection is lost during configuration, repeatthe process.CAUTION
