APPENDIX8part of the code of the Library into a programthat is not a library.4. You may copy and distribute the Library(or a portion or derivative of it, under Section2) in object code or executable form underthe terms of Sections 1 and 2 aboveprovided that you accompany it with thecomplete corresponding machine-readablesource code, which must be distributedunder the terms of Sections 1 and 2 aboveon a medium customarily used for softwareinterchange. If distribution of object code is made byoffering access to copy from a designatedplace, then offering equivalent access tocopy the source code from the same placesatisfies the requirement to distribute thesource code, even though third parties arenot compelled to copy the source along withthe object code.5. A program that contains no derivative ofany portion of the Library, but is designed towork with the Library by being compiled orlinked with it, is called a “work that uses theLibrary”. Such a work, in isolation, is not aderivative work of the Library, and thereforefalls outside the scope of this License. However, linking a “work that uses the Library”with the Library creates an executable thatis a derivative of the Library (because itcontains portions of the Library), rather thana “work that uses the library”. The executableis therefore covered by this License. Section6 states terms for distribution of suchexecutables. When a “work that uses the Library” usesmaterial from a header file that is part of theLibrary, the object code for the work may bea derivative work of the Library even thoughthe source code is not. Whether this is true isespecially significant if the work can be linkedwithout the Library, or if the work is itself alibrary. The threshold for this to be true is notprecisely defined by law.If such an object file uses only numericalparameters, data structure layouts andaccessors, and small macros and smallinline functions (ten lines or less in length),then the use of the object file is unrestricted, regardless of whether it is legally a derivativework. (Executables containing this objectcode plus portions of the Library will still fallunder Section 6.)Otherwise, if the work is a derivative of theLibrary, you may distribute the object codefor the work under the terms of Section 6.Any executables containing that work alsofall under Section 6, whether or not they arelinked directly with the Library itself.6. As an exception to the Sections above, you may also combine or link a “work thatuses the Library” with the Library to producea work containing portions of the Library, and distribute that work under terms ofyour choice, provided that the terms permitmodification of the work for the customer’sown use and reverse engineering fordebugging such modifications. You must give prominent notice with eachcopy of the work that the Library is used in itand that the Library and its use are coveredby this License. You must supply a copy ofthis License. If the work during executiondisplays copyright notices, you must includethe copyright notice for the Library amongthem, as well as a reference directing theuser to the copy of this License. Also, youmust do one of these things:a) Accompany the work with the completecorresponding machine-readable sourcecode for the Library including whateverchanges were used in the work (whichmust be distributed under Sections 1and 2 above); and, if the work is anexecutable linked with the Library, withthe complete machine-readable “workthat uses the Library”, as object codeand/or source code, so that the usercan modify the Library and then relink toproduce a modified executable containingthe modified Library. (It is understoodthat the user who changes the contentsof definitions files in the Library will notnecessarily be able to recompile theapplication to use the modified definitions.)b) Use a suitable shared library mechanismfor linking with the Library. A suitablemechanism is one that (1) uses at runtime a copy of the library already presenton the user’s computer system, ratherthan copying library functions into theexecutable, and (2) will operate properlywith a modified version of the library, if theuser installs one, as long as the modifiedversion is interface-compatible with theversion that the work was made with.uhzhktzYtptTkWWhulupiWZ^ZZhOXP⺴⦑UGGG_ YWXZTWYTX_GGG㝘㤸GXWaX`aXY |
