SAFETY CHECK- Upon completion of anyservice or repairs to this unit, ask the servicetechnician to perform safety checks todetermine that the unit is in proper operatingcondition.22. HEAT- The product should be situated awayfrom heat sources such as radiators, heatregisters, stoves, or other products (includingamplifiers) that produce heat.23. NOTE TO CATV SYSTEM INSTALLERThis reminder is provided to call the CATVsystem installer's attention to Article 820-40of the NEC that provides guidelines for propergrounding and, in particular, specifies that thecable ground shall be connected to thegrounding system of the building, as close tothe point of cable entry as practical.12. POWER-CORD PROTECTION- Power-supply cords should be routed so that theyare not likely to be walked on or pinched byitems placed upon or against them, payingparticular attention to cords at plugs,convenience receptacles, and the pointwhere they exit from the appliance.13. LIGHTNING- To protect your unit during alightning storm, or when it is left unattendedand unused for long periods of time, unplug itfrom the wall outlet and disconnect theantenna or cable system. This will preventdamage to the unit due to lightning andpower line surges.14. POWER LINES- An outside antenna systemshould not be located in the vicinity ofoverhead power lines, or other electric lightor power circuits, or where it can fall intosuch power lines or circuits. When installingan outside antenna system, extreme careshould be taken to keep from touching suchpower lines or circuits as contact with themmight be fatal.15. OVERLOADING- Do not overload walloutlets and extension cords as this can resultin a risk of fire or electric shock.16. OBJECT AND LIQUID ENTRY- Do not pushobjects through any openings in this unit asthey may touch dangerous voltage points orshort out parts that could result in fire orelectric shock. Never spill or spray any typeof liquid into the unit.17. OUTDOOR ANTENNA GROUNDING- If anoutside antenna or cable system is con-nected to the unit, be sure the antenna orcable system is grounded to provide someprotection against voltage surges and built-upstatic charges. Section 810 of the NationalElectrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70, providesinformation with respect to proper groundingof the mast and supporting structure,grounding of the lead-in wire to an antennadischarge unit, size of grounding conductors,location of antenna discharge unit, connec-tion to grounding electrodes, and require-ments for the grounding electrode.18. SERVICING- Do not attempt to service thisunit yourself as opening or removing coversmay expose you to dangerous voltage orother hazards. Refer all servicing to qualifiedservice personnel.19. DAMAGE REQUIRING SERVICE- Unplugthis unit from the wall outlet and referservicing to qualified service personnel underthe following conditions:a. When the power-supply cord or plug isdamaged.b. If liquid has been spilled, or objects havefallen into the unit.c. If the unit has been exposed to rain or water.8A. An appliance and cart combination should bemoved with care. Quick stops, excessiveforce, and uneven surfaces may cause theappliance and cart combination to overturn.9. VENTILATION- Slots and openings in thecabinet back or bottom are provided forventilation, to ensure reliable operation of theunit and to protect it from overheating. Theseopenings must not be blocked or covered. Theopenings should never be blocked by placingthe unit on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similarsurface. This unit should never be placed nearor over a radiator or heat source. This unitshould not be placed in a built-in installation,such as a bookcase, or rack unless properventilation is provided or the manufacturer'sinstructions have been adhered to.10. POWER SOURCE- This unit should beoperated only from the type of power sourceindicated on the rating plate. If you are notsure of the type of power supply to your home,consult your appliance dealer or local powercompany. For units intended to operate frombattery power, or other sources, refer to theoperating instructions.11. GROUNDING OR POLARIZATION- Thisunit is equipped with a polarized alternatingcurrent line plug (a plug having one bladewider than the other). This plug will fit into thepower outlet only one way. This is a safetyfeature. If you are unable to insert the plugfully into the outlet, try reversing the plug. Ifthe plug still fails to fit, contact your electri-cian to replace your obsolete outlet. Do notdefeat the safety purpose of the polarizedplug. If your unit is equipped with a 3-wiregrounding-type plug, a plug having a third(grounding) pin, this plug will only fit into agrounding-type power outlet. This too, is asafety feature. If you are unable to insert theplug into the outlet, contact your electrician toreplace your obsolete outlet. Do not defeatthe safety purpose of the grounding-type plug.1. READ INSTRUCTIONS- All the safety andoperating instructions should be read beforethe unit is operated.2. RETAIN INSTRUCTIONS- The safety andoperating instructions should be retained forfuture reference.3. HEED WARNINGS-All warnings on the unitand in the operating instructions should beadhered to.4. FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS- All operating anduse instructions should be followed.5. CLEANING- Unplug this unit from the walloutlet before cleaning. Do not use liquidcleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a dampcloth for cleaning the exterior cabinet only.6. ATTACHMENTS- The manufacturer of thisunit does not make any recommendations forattachments, as they may cause hazards.7. WATER AND MOISTURE- Do not use thisunit near water. For example, near a bathtub,washbowl, kitchen sink, laundry tub, in a wetbasement, or near a swimming pool.8. ACCESSORIES- Do not place this unit on anunstable cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table.The unit may fall, causing serious injury, andserious damage to the unit.REMOTE CONTROLBefore using the remote control transmitter, batteries must first be installed.2. Install two "AA" (penlight size) batteries.3. Replace the battery compartment cover.Use two "AA" size penlight batteries (supplied)for the transmitter. The batteries may lastapproximately one year depending on howmuch the remote control is used. For bestperformance, it is recommended that batteriesshould be replaced on a yearly basis, or whenthe remote operation becomes erratic. Do notmix old and new batteries or different types.BATTERY PRECAUTIONSThese precautions should be followed whenusing batteries in this device:1. Use only the size and type of batteriesspecified.2. Be sure to follow the correct polarity wheninstalling the batteries as indicated in thebattery compartment. Reversed batteriesmay cause damage to the device.3. Do not mix different types of batteriestogether (e.g. Alkaline and Carbon-zinc) orold batteries with fresh ones.4. If the device is not to be used for a longperiod of time, remove the batteries toprevent damage or injury from possiblebattery leakage.5. Do not try to recharge batteries not intendedto be recharged; they can overheat andrupture.(Follow battery manufacturer's directions.)1. Slide the battery compartment cover.HOW TO INSTALL BATTERIESTO USE AC POWER SOURCEUse the AC polarized line cord provided for operation on AC. Insert the AC cord plug into astandard 120V 60Hz polarized AC outlet.POWER SOURCENOTES:1. Never connect the AC line cord plug to other thanthe specified voltage (120V 60Hz). Use the attachedpower cord only.2. If the polarized AC cord does not fit into a non-polarized AC outlet, do not attempt to file or cut theblade. It is the user's responsibility to have anelectrician replace the obsolete outlet.3. If you cause a static discharge when touching theunit, and the unit fails to function, simply unplug theunit from the AC outlet, wait a few minutes, and plugit back in.
