18Security MeasuresTo prevent unauthorized access of your computer, the various security measures are provided below.You can set your "Supervisor Password" and "User Password" (The User Password canonly be set when the Supervisor Password has been set).Without the password, access to your computer is impossible.Starting up when the password is setWhen you do not want your computer to be used without permissionIf the correct password is input, Will StartWill Not Start*(Power off)Upon entering your SupervisorPassword or User Passwordand pressing Enter .If entering the Setup Utility with Supervisor PasswordIf entering the Setup Utility with User PasswordOver three incorrect attempts,or no password is entered for about one minute,CAUTIONIt is not necessary to set the User Password.It is necessary to set [Password on boot] in the Setup Utility to [Enable].You can not register [Advanced] menu and some items in [Security] menu.When [User Password Protection] has been set to [Protected], you can not regis-ter the User Password.F9 does not work.You can register all items of the Setup Utility ( page 51 ).does not appear when the computer resumes from the standby mode.Use the hibernation mode.(If you want to use the security function when using the standby mode, add thecheck mark for [Prompt for password when computer goes off standby] in [ControlPanel] - [Power Management] - [Advanced].)* If after three attempts the correct password is notinput, or if no password is entered for about a minute,the computer returns to the condition just beforethe attempt was made to start up the computer.ReferenceSituationYou do not want your computer to be used without permissionYou do not want the data on the hard disk to be read, or data tobe written to the hard disk, in cases including theft.You want to prevent theft or damage to data by using a diskFunction to useSupervisor PasswordUser PasswordHard Disk LockPrevent operation byusing a diskbelowpage 21page 22(To next page)NOTEWhen [Password on boot] in the Setup Utility is set to [Disable], the password is notnecessary when the computer is started up, but the password becomes necessarywhen the Setup Utility is started up.
