17Integrated Amplifier5 UnitiLite Integrated AmplifierUnitiLite incorporates a high performance integrated preamplifier and power amplifierbased on established Naim design principles. The preamplifier is able to handle bothanalogue and digital audio signals and, in addition to UnitiLite’s internal CD player, multi-mode radio and network interface it has inputs for three external analogue and fiveexternal digital signals.Using the UnitiLite amplifier is simply a matter of selecting the desired input and setting thelistening volume level.5.1 Selecting InputsInputs can be selected by pressing the front panel inputbutton, the handset up (5) and down (6) keys or one ofthe handset input selection keys.Note: The front panel input is automatically selected assoon as a plug is inserted.Pressing the front panel input button or handset up (5)and down (6) keys scrolls through and selects the inputs inthe following order:CD, FM (radio), DAB (radio), iRadio, UPnP™ (NetworkUPnP™), USB/iPod, Front (front panel analogue/digital),Analogue 1, Analogue 2, Digital 1, Digital 2, Digital 3,Digital 4.Note: FM and DAB inputs are only available if the optionalFM/DAB tuner module is fitted.Note: These are the default input names. They may bealtered within the UnitiLite set up menus. See Section 4.3.Inputs can also be disabled so that they are hidden fromselection.Pressing one of the handset input selection keys eitherdirectly selects a single input or scrolls through a groupof inputs. For example, by default, pressing the CD inputselection key selects the CD input, while pressing the radioinput selection key scrolls through a group comprising theFM, DAB and iRadio inputs.Note: The default input selection key assignments may bealtered within the UnitiLite set up menus. See Section 4.9.2.Selecting an input will route that input’s audio signal to theUnitiLite outputs.UnitiLite will momentarily display input names as they areselected before displaying input specific information; CDtrack or radio preset for example. If an input is not operational (for example, no USB memorystick is attached) when selected, UnitiLite will display adescriptive alert message.5.2 Volume ControlUnitiLite volume control is achieved by using either thefront panel –vol and vol+ buttons or the handset vol–and vol+ keys. The volume control affects the speaker, headphone and preamplifier outputs.Note: In list or setup modes front panel volume control isdisabled. Volume can still be controlled using the handsetvolume keys. The mute function silences the UnitiLite speaker, headphone and preamplifier outputs and is engaged ordisengaged by pressing the front panel mute button orhandset mute key. Mute is indicated by the display volumeicon flashing.5.3 Amplifier DisplayIn normal operation the UnitiLite front panel displayprimarily shows information relating to the selected input. Itwill change temporarily to show amplifier adjustments suchas volume level and signal mute state as these are made.5.4 Signal OutputsIn addition to its speaker outputs the UnitiLite integratedamplifier provides provides a stereo preamplifier output, and a headphone output. The preamplifier output is designed to enable an upgradeor additional Naim Audio power amplifier to be connectedto the UnitiLite preamplifier. The UnitiLite headphone amplifier is able to drivemost commonly available headphones. Insertion ofa headphone plug will mute the UnitiLite speaker, preamplifier and subwoofer outputs.5.5 Amplifier Fault WarningsIn the unlikely event that the UnitiLite power amplifier isoverloaded, exceeds its normal operating temperature ormalfunctions, its output will mute and the display will showa warning message.
