4NAC 552The remote handset mono (Flash) or mon (Narcom 3) key canalso be used to set up automatic source switching. Automaticinput switching only becomes operational on exiting fromprogram mode by pressing and holding the handset prog key.Note: In a few cases some further equipment configuration maybe required for auto switching to operate correctly on the AV input. Please contact your retailer or local distributor for advice.5.5 AV Integration (Unity Gain)The NAC 552 unity gain function enables an audio-visualprocessor to be integrated such that its volume control takesover command of signals connected to selected NAC 552inputs. Unity gain can be selected on input sockets 4 and 5only (the corresponding input buttons will depend on the inputmapping set up).To select unity gain, first switch the NAC 552 into program modeas described in Paragraph 5.2. The front panel source mutebutton will illuminate if unity gain is selected on any input. If it isnot enabled it can be switched on by pressing the source mutebutton twice. With unity gain enabled, pressing the source mute buttonagain will reveal the inputs selected by their button indicatorsilluminating for a short time. Repeated operation of the sourcemute button will sequentially select each combination of Input4, Input 5 and unity gain disabled. When the desired inputs areindicated, stop pressing the source mute button. The selectedinputs will then be enabled for unity gain. The remote handsetmute key can also be used to set up unity gain.Unity gain only becomes operational on exiting from programmode by pressing and holding the handset prog key.Note: The unity gain feature must be used with care. It effectivelyby-passes the NAC 552 volume and balance controls leaving anysignal connected to a unity gain input to be passed to the poweramplifier and speakers at full volume. In order to reduce thepotential for inadvertent mishap, any subsequent modificationsto input mapping will automatically disable previously set up unitygain inputs. Additionally, if an input is selected which has unity gainenabled, the NAC 552 volume and balance handset functions willbe disabled and their indicators will turn off. This will be flagged bythe volume or balance indicators flashing if either handset functionis operated.5.6 Handset Volume and Balance ControlThe remote handset volume and balance keys provide somealternative control characteristics. A quick press and release ofa key will adjust by a preset “nudge”. A quick press and releaseof a key followed by press and hold will cause continual slowadjustment. Simple press and hold will cause continual fastadjustment.5.7 Mute and MonoMute and mono functions can be controlled independently forsource and record signals via the front panel buttons to the leftof the two banks of source and record selection buttons. Mutesilences the output signal, while mono sums the left and rightchannels.5.8 DisplayThe NAC 552 front panel button display can be switched offby pressing the remote handset (in preamplifier mode) dispfunction. Any subsequent handset or front panel operation willtemporarily restore the display. A second operation of the dispfunction will permanently restore the display.5.9 Switch-onAfter switch-on, via the NAC 552PS front panel power button, the NAC 552 will remain muted for 30 seconds while controlsystems and circuits stabilise. The source side will then un-muteautomatically leaving the record side muted (and its circuitsunpowered).5.10 Remote ControlThe Flash remote handset supplied with the NAC 552 duplicatesall configuration and control functions. See Section 23 for moreinformation. The NARCOM and iCom handsets will also controlthe NAC 552. See Sections 24 and 25 for more information.5.11 DefaultsTo restore all programmable settings to the factory defaultspress and hold the remote handset disp key while thepreamplifier is in program mode. The preamplifier will exit fromprogram mode following this operation.6.1 NAC 552 Frontvolume balance mutemonosourcebankrecordbanksource and recordselection
