AUDIO SETUP MENULISTENING MODEThe VISO FIVE offers distinct SURROUND MODES tailored for different typesof recordings or program material. With a two-channel (Stereo) source, thefollowing listening modes can be selected:PRO LOGIC PLIIDolby Pro Logic II is a more recent evolution of the original Dolby Pro Logicsurround processing that yields more stable imaging and full bandwidthsound to the rear channels in Movie mode, offering sound that is moresimilar to Dolby Digital decoding. Two-channel recordings, whether stereoor surround-encoded, are reproduced with Dolby Pro Logic II surroundprocessing, yielding output to Front, Center and Surround channels(assuming these are present in the “Speaker Settings” menu).PLII Movie is optimized for film soundtracks.PLII Emulation for decoding original Dolby Surround sound film and musicrecordings.PLII Music for music recordings.DIMENSION (-3 to +3): Adjusts front-rear emphasis of the surroundeffect independently from the relative channel levels.CENTER WIDTH (0 to 7): Modifies the “hard-centeredness” of the centerimage, by gradually mixing mono center content to the Front left/rightspeakers as well. A setting of 0 retains the center-channel-only defaultwhile a setting of 7 yields a fully phantom center channel.PANORAMA (On/Off ): Adds a “wrap around” effect by extending somestereo content into the surround channels.EARSTwo-channel recordings, whether stereo or surround-encoded, arereproduced with proprietary NAD surround processing with signalsoutput to the front, center and discrete surround channels, plus subwoofer(assuming these are present in the “Speaker Settings” menu).EARS extracts the natural ambience present in nearly all well-producedstereo recordings. It does not synthesize any ambience or other sonicelements and thus remains truer to the sound of the original musicalperformance than most other music-surround options.Select EARS for listening to stereo music recordings and broadcasts.EARS produces a subtle but highly natural and believable ambience fromnearly all “natural-acoustic” stereo recordings. Typically, these includeclassical, jazz, and folk genres as well as numerous examples from others. Its virtues include realistic, stable “front-stage” sonic imaging and spaciousbut unexaggerated ambient “virtual acoustics” that remain faithful to theoriginal recording.ENHANCED STEREOAll recordings reproduced in stereo via the maximum speaker complementconfigured in the “Speaker Settings” menu. Enhanced stereo can be usefulfor maximum volume from all channels or for multi-speaker backgroundmusic (cocktail party) listening. For this mode, Front, Center and Surroundcan be turned “On” or “Off” as desired.DOLBY® VIRTUAL SPEAKER (DVS)Dolby Virtual Speaker technology creates a highly compelling 5.1-channellistening experience from as few as two speakers, making it an idealentertainment solution for locations where space for multiple-speakersetups is limited.Dolby Virtual Speaker models the sound of a playback system into twodifferent listening environments, based on acoustic measurements of realrooms:DVS Reference is a small, well-damped room appropriate for bothmovies and music-only recordings.DVS Wide is a larger room, more like a concert hall or movie theatre.STEREOAll output is directed to the front left/right channels. Low frequencies aredirected to the subwoofer if one is present in the Speaker settings. Select“Stereo” when you wish to listen to a stereo (or monaural) production, suchas music CD or FM broadcast, without surround enhancement. Stereorecordings whether in PCM/digital or analog form and whether surround-encoded or not encoded, are reproduced as recorded. Multi-channel digitalrecordings (Dolby Digital and DTS) are reproduced in “Stereo Downmix”mode via the front left/right channels only as Lt/Rt (left/right-total) signals.OPERATIONUSING THE VISO FIVE – AUDIO SETUP MENU14ENGLISH FRANÇAIS ESPAÑOL ITALIANO DEUTSCH NEDERLANDS SVENSKA РУССКИЙ
