4-9Section 4 MaintenanceCLEANING THE CONDENSERWARNINGDisconnect electric power to the ice machine at the electricservice switch before cleaning the condenser.Air-Cooled CondenserA dirty condenser restricts airflow, resulting inexcessively high operating temperatures. Thisreduces ice production and shortens component life.Clean the condenser at least every six months. Followthe steps below.WARNINGThe condenser fins are sharp. Use care when cleaning them.1. The washable aluminum filter on self-containedice machines is designed to catch dust, dirt, lintand grease. This helps keep the condenser clean.Clean the filter with a mild soap and watersolution.2. Clean the outside of the condenser with a softbrush or a vacuum with a brush attachment. Cleanfrom top to bottom, not side to side. Be carefulnot to bend the condenser fins.3. Shine a flashlight through the condenser to checkfor dirt between the fins. If dirt remains: Blowcompressed air through the condenser fins fromthe inside. Be careful not to bend the fan blades.4. Use a commercial condenser coil cleaner. Followthe directions and cautions supplied with thecleaner.5. Straighten any bent condenser fins with a fincomb.6. Carefully wipe off the fan blades and motor witha soft cloth. Do not bend the fan blades. If the fanblades are excessively dirty, wash with warm, soapy water and rinse thoroughly.CAUTIONIf you are cleaning the condenser fan blades with water, coverthe fan motor to prevent water damage.Water-Cooled Condenser andWater Regulating ValveThe water-cooled condenser and water regulatingvalve may require cleaning due to scale build-up.Low ice production, high water consumption andhigh operating temperatures and pressures all may besymptoms of restrictions in the condenser watercircuit.Because the cleaning procedures require specialpumps and cleaning solutions, they must beperformed by qualified maintenance or servicepersonnel.
