6 ENGLISHIndicator lamp► Fig.3: 1. Power-ON indicator lamp (green)2. Service indicator lamp (red)The green power-ON indicator lamp lights up when the toolis plugged. If the indicator lamp does not light up, the mainscord or the controller may be malfunction. The indicator lampis lit but the tool does not start even if the tool is switched on,the carbon brushes may be worn out, or the controller, themotor or the ON/OFF switch may be malfunction.The red service indicator lamp flickers up when thecarbon brushes are nearly worn out to indicate that thetool needs servicing. After approx. 8 hours of use, themotor will automatically be shut off.ASSEMBLYCAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before carrying out any work on thetool.Side handle (auxiliary handle)► Fig.4: 1. Side handle 2. Clamp nutThe side handle can be swung 360° on the vertical andsecured at any desired position. It also secures at eightdifferent positions back and forth on the horizontal.Just loosen the clamp nut to swing the side handle to adesired position. Then tighten the clamp nut securely.The side handle also can be mounted in the reargroove. Loosen the clamp nut and widen the side han-dle base. Slide the side handle back to the rear grooveand secure it with the clamp nut.Installing or removing the bit► Fig.5: 1. Bit shank 2. Bit greaseClean the bit shank and apply bit grease before install-ing the bit.Insert the bit into the tool. Turn the bit and push it in untilit engages.► Fig.6: 1. Releasing coverIf the bit cannot be pushed in, remove the bit. Pull thereleasing cover down a couple of times. Then insert thebit again. Turn the bit and push it in until it engages.► Fig.7After installing, always make sure that the bit is securelyheld in place by trying to pull it out.To remove the bit, pull the releasing cover down all theway and pull the bit out.► Fig.8: 1. Releasing coverBit angle► Fig.9: 1. Change ring► Fig.10The bit can be secured at 12 different angles. Tochange the bit angle, slide the change ring forward,then turn the change ring to change the bit angle. At thedesired angle, slide the change ring back to the originalposition. The bit will be secured in place.OPERATIONChipping/Scaling/Demolition► Fig.11Always use the side grip (auxiliary handle) and firmly holdthe tool by both side grip and switch handle during oper-ations. Turn the tool on and apply slight pressure on thetool so that the tool will not bounce around, uncontrolled.Pressing very hard on the tool will not increase the efficiency.MAINTENANCECAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off and unpluggedbefore attempting to perform inspection or maintenance.• Never use gasoline, benzine, thinner, alcohol or thelike. Discoloration, deformation or cracks may result.LubricationCAUTION:• This servicing should be performed by MakitaAuthorized Service Centers only.This tool requires no hourly or daily lubrication because ithas a grease-packed lubrication system. It should be relubri-cated regularly. Send the complete tool to Makita Authorizedor Factory Service Center for this lubrication service.To maintain product SAFETY and RELIABILITY, repairs, anyother maintenance or adjustment should be performed by MakitaAuthorized Service Centers, always using Makita replacement parts.OPTIONAL ACCESSORIESCAUTION:• These accessories or attachments are recom-mended for use with your Makita tool specified in thismanual.
