8Install the side grip so that the teeth on the grip fit inbetween the protrusions on the tool barrel. Then tightenthe grip by turning clockwise at the desired position. Itmay be swung 360° so as to be secured at any position.Bit greaseCoat the bit shank head beforehand with a small amountof bit grease (about 0.5 -1 g). This chuck lubricationassures smooth action and longer service life.Installing or removing the bitClean the bit shank and apply bit grease before installingthe bit.Fig.11Insert the bit into the tool. Turn the bit and push it in untilit engages.Fig.12If the bit cannot be pushed in, remove the bit. Pull thechuck cover down a couple of times. Then insert the bitagain. Turn the bit and push it in until it engages. After installing, always make sure that the bit is securelyheld in place by trying to pull it out.To remove the bit, pull the chuck cover down all the wayand pull the bit out.Fig.13Bit angle (when chipping, scaling ordemolishing)Fig.14The bit can be secured at the desired angle. To changethe bit angle, depress the lock button and rotate theaction mode changing knob to the O symbol. Turn the bitto the desired angle.Depress the lock button and rotate the action modechanging knob to the symbol. Then make sure that thebit is securely held in place by turning it slightly.Fig.15Depth gaugeFig.16The depth gauge is convenient for drilling holes ofuniform depth. Loosen the side grip and insert the depthgauge into the hole in the side grip. Adjust the depthgauge to the desired depth and tighten the side grip.NOTE:• The depth gauge cannot be used at the positionwhere the depth gauge strikes against the gearhousing.Dust cupFig.17Use the dust cup to prevent dust from falling over thetool and on yourself when performing overhead drillingoperations. Attach the dust cup to the bit as shown in thefigure. The size of bits which the dust cup can beattached to is as follows.Bit diameterDust cup 5 6 mm - 14.5 mmDust cup 9 12 mm - 16 mm006382OPERATIONHammer drilling operationFig.18Set the action mode changing knob to the symbol.Position the bit at the desired location for the hole, thenpull the switch trigger.Do not force the tool. Light pressure gives best results.Keep the tool in position and prevent it from slippingaway from the hole.Do not apply more pressure when the hole becomesclogged with chips or particles. Instead, run the tool atan idle, then remove the bit partially from the hole. Byrepeating this several times, the hole will be cleaned outand normal drilling may be resumed.CAUTION:• There is a tremendous and sudden twisting forceexerted on the tool/bit at the time of holebreak-through, when the hole becomes cloggedwith chips and particles, or when strikingreinforcing rods embedded in the concrete. Alwaysuse the side grip (auxiliary handle) and firmly holdthe tool by both side grip and switch handle duringoperations. Failure to do so may result in the lossof control of the tool and potentially severe injury.NOTE:Eccentricity in the bit rotation may occur while operatingthe tool with no load. The tool automatically centers itselfduring operation. This does not affect the drillingprecision.Blow-out bulb (optional accessory)Fig.19After drilling the hole, use the blow-out bulb to clean thedust out of the hole.Chipping/Scaling/DemolitionFig.20Set the action mode changing knob to the symbol.Hold the tool firmly with both hands. Turn the tool on andapply slight pressure on the tool so that the tool will notbounce around, uncontrolled. Pressing very hard on thetool will not increase the efficiency.Drilling in wood or metalFor model BHR261 onlyFig.21Fig.22Use the optional drill chuck assembly. When installing it,refer to "Installing or removing the bit" described on theprevious page.Set the action mode changing knob so that the pointerpoints to the symbol. |
