2-6 ServeRAID Controller Hardware Installation2.4 Connecting a ServeRAID-M5110 SAS/SATA Controller toa Drive Backplane on an EnclosureThis section describes how to connect the ServeRAID M5110 SAS/SATAcontroller by cable to the drive backplane on an enclosure. The enclosurecan contain SAS drives and SATA drives. Both the SAS protocols and the SATA protocols use a thin, 7-wireconnector instead of the 68-wire SCSI cable or 26-wire ATA cable. AniPass™ cable with an internal x4 mini-SAS 4i (SFF-8087) connector ateach end is used to connect the controller to the drive backplane of anenclosure containing SAS drives and/or SATA drives.Note: Use only straight SAS cables, not cross-over SAS cables.Follow these steps to connect the internal x4 mini-SAS 4i (SFF-8087)connector on the cable to the controller and the drive backplane.Step 1. Read the safety information that comes with the controllerStep 2. Turn off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect thepower cords.Step 3. Remove the server cover.Step 4. Plug the internal x4 mini-SAS 4i (SFF-8087) connector on oneend of the cable into the x4 SAS port 0-3 connector on thecontroller, as shown in the following figure.Step 5. Plug the internal x4 mini-SAS 4i (SFF-8087) connector on theother end of the cable into the port connector on the drivebackplane. You can use another cable to connect the other internal x4 mini-SAS 4i (SFF-8087) connector on the controller to the other portconnector on the drive backplane.
