Turn off the Power to the SystemReview all safety information provided with the computer; then,turn off the power to the computer, unplug the power cords fromthe power supplies, disconnect the computer from the network,and remove the computer cover. See the documentationprovided with the computer for instructions. Before you installthe controller, make sure that the computer is disconnectedfrom the power and from any networks.Step 3. Review the Controller ConnectorsRefer to Chapter 3, “ServeRAID M1115 SAS/SATA ControllerCharacteristics” for a diagram of the ServeRAID M1115controller with its connectors.Step 4. Review the Controller LimitationsReview Section 1.3.1, “Controller Limitations” before you installthe controller in the system.Step 5. Install the ControllerSelect a PCI Express slot and align the controller’s PCIExpress bus connector to the slot. Press down gently but firmlyto ensure that the card is properly seated in the slot. Securethe bracket to the computer chassis.The following figure shows the installation of the ServeRAIDM1115 controller in a PCI Express slot.Note: Some PCI-E slots support PCI-E graphics cards only. If aRAID controller is installed one of those slots, the controllerdoes not function.Attention: To avoid damage to the computer, always remove thecontroller from the PCI Express slot before you relocate orship the computer.
