Slope OperationSlopes are a major factor related to loss of control and tip-overaccidents, which can result in severe injury or death. Operationon all slopes requires extra caution. If you cannot back up theslope or if you feel uneasy on it, do not mow it.• Mow up and down slopes(10 degrees maximum), notacross.• Watch for holes, ruts, bumps, rocks, or otherhidden objects. Uneventerrain could overturn themachine. Tall grass can hideobstacles.• Choose a low ground speedso that you will not have to stop while on the slope.• Do not mow on wet grass. Tires may lose traction.• Avoid starting, stopping, or turning on a slope. If the tireslose traction, disengage the blades and proceed slowlystraight down the slope.• Keep movement on the slopes slow and gradual. Do notmake sudden changes in speed or direction, which couldcause machine to roll over.• Use extra care while operating machine with grass catchersor other attachments; they can affect the stability of themachine.• Do not use on steep slopes.• Do not try to stabilize the machine by putting a foot on theground.• Do not mow near drop-offs,ditches, or embankments. The machine could sud-denly roll over if a wheel isover the edge or the edgecaves in.WARNING! Do not drive up or down hills with slopesgreater than 10 degrees. And do not drive across anyslopes.ChildrenTragic accidents can occur if the operator is not alert to thepresence of children. Children are often attracted to themachine and the mowing activity. Never assume that childrenwill remain where you last saw them.• Keep children out ofthe mowing area and inthe watchful care of aresponsible adult other thanthe operator.• Be alert and turn machineoff if a child enters the area.• Before and while backing, look behind and down forsmall children.• Never carry children, even with the blades shut off. Theymay fall off and be seriously injured or interfere with safemachine operation. Children who have been given ridesin the past may suddenly appear in the mowing area foranother ride and be runover or backed over by themachine.• Never allow children tooperate the machine.• Use extra care whenapproaching blind corners, shrubs, trees, or otherobjects that may block yourview of a child.Safe Handling of GasolineTo avoid personal injury or property damage, use extreme carein handling gasoline. Gasoline is extremely flammable and thevapors are explosive.• Extinguish all cigarettes, cigars, pipes, and other sources ofignition.• Use only approved gasoline containers.• Never remove gas cap or add fuel with the engine running.Allow engine to cool before refueling.• Never fuel the machine indoors.• Never store the machineor fuel container wherethere is an open flame, spark, or pilot light such ason a water heater or otherappliance.• Before you begin refueling, minimize the risk of staticelectricity by touching ametal surface.WARNING! CHILDREN CAN BE INJURED BYTHIS EQUIPMENT. The American Academy of Pediatricsrecommends that children be a minimum of 16 years of agebefore operating a riding lawn mower.WARNING!Engine exhaust and certain vehicle components containor emit chemicals considered to cause cancer, birthdefects, or other reproductive system damage. The engineexhaust contains carbon monoxide, which is an odorless, colorless, poisonous gas. Do not use the machinein enclosed spaces.8SAFETY
