19OPERATIONWARNING! Do not drive the rider onterrain that slopes more than 10 degrees.Mow slopes up and down, never side to side.Avoid sudden directional changes. Do not driveacross slopes.Operating on HillsRead the Safety Instructions Driving on Slopesin the Safety section.• Use the slowest speed possible before startingup or down hills.• Avoid stopping or changing speed on hills.• If stopping is fully necessary, pull steering / parkbrake controls into the neutral position and pushoutward to engage the park brake.• Pull the steering / park brake controls back tothe center of the mower and push forward toregain forward movement.• Make all turns slowly.Mowing Tips• Observe and flag rocks and other fixed objectsto avoid collisions.• Begin with a high cutting height and reduce ituntil the desired mowing result is attained. Theaverage lawn must be cut to 2-1/2" during thecool season and over 3" during the hot months. For healthier and better looking lawns, mowoften after moderate growth.• For best cutting performance, grass over 6" inheight must be mowed twice. Make the first cutrelatively high; the second to the desired height.• The mowing result will be best with a highengine speed (the blades rotate rapidly) andlow speed (the rider moves slowly). If the grassis not too long and dense, the driving speed canbe increased without negatively affecting themowing result.• The finest lawns are obtained by mowingoften. The lawn becomes more even and thegrass clippings more equally distributed overthe mown area. The total time taken is notincreased as a higher operating speed can beused without poor mowing results.• When mowing large areas, start by turning tothe right so that clippings will discharge awayfrom shrubs, fences, driveways, etc. After oneor two rounds, mow in the opposite directionmaking left hand turns until finished.• Avoid mowing wet lawns. The mowing resultis poorer because the wheels sink into the softlawn, clumps build, and grass clippings fastenunder the cowling.• Hose the mower deck underside with waterafter each use. When cleaning, the mower deckshall be raised into the transport position. Makesure the mower is cooled and the engine is off.• Use compressed air to clean top surface ofthe deck. Avoid flooding water on top surface, engine and electrical components.• When the mulching kit is used, it is importantthat the mowing interval is frequent.Moving Machine By HandWARNING!
