WORKING TECHNIQUES14 – EnglishGeneral working instructionsSafety instructions regarding thesurroundings• Never allow children to use the machine.• Ensure that no-one comes closer than 5 m while youare working.• Never allow anyone else to use the machine withoutfirst ensuring that they have understood the contentsof the operator’s manual.Safety instructions while working• Always ensure you have a safe and stable workingposition.• Always hold the machine with both hands.• Use your right hand to control the throttle setting.• Make sure that your hands and feet do not come nearthe cutting attachment when the engine is running.• Start drilling with half-throttle, and gradually increasethe engine speed so that the drill may get into theground smoothly.• If the drill has been caught in the ground and cannotbe pulled out, stop the engine and rotate the augercounter-clockwise.• Always turn off the engine when you have finisheddrilling.• When the engine is switched off, keep your hands andfeet away from the cutting attachment until it hasstopped completely.• If any foreign object is hit or if vibrations occur stop themachine immediately. Disconnect the HT lead fromthe spark plug. Check that the machine is notdamaged. Repair any damage.IMPORTANT!This section takes up the basic safety precautions forworking with an earth auger.If you encounter a situation where you are uncertainhow to proceed you should ask an expert. Drilling into or contact withelectrical cables or wires can lead todeath or serious bodily injury. Themachine is not electrically insulated. Toreduce the risk of electrocution, alwayscheck for underground pipes, cables andwires before drilling. Contact your localutility company or locator service forinformation regarding cable and pipelocations. If necessary, confirm theactual locations by use of devices suchas cable detectors and by carefullydigging trenches.! WARNING! Striking something hard inthe earth, such as rocks or tree roots,may cause the drill to come to a suddenstop. This can lead to a reacting motionon the auger, which can cause theoperator to lose control of the machineor throw him to the ground, resulting inserious injury. To reduce the risk ofinjury, always hold the auger securely tocontrol such motion.
