STARTING AND STOPPINGEnglish – 211153136-49 Rev.2 2010-04-08Starting and stoppingStartingThe chain brake should be activated when starting thechain saw. Activate the chain brake by pushing the fronthand guard forwards. (49)Cold engineStart position, 1: Set the start/stop switch in the chokeposition by pulling the red control outward - upward. (50)Decompression valve (2): Press the valve to reduce thepressure in the cylinder and make starting easier. Oncethe machine has started the valve will automatically returnto its original setting. (50)Air purge (3): Press the air purge diaphragm repeatedlyuntil fuel fills the diaphragm (at least 6 times). Thediaphragm need not be completely filled. (50)Grip the front handle with your left hand. Hold the chainsaw on the ground by placing your right foot through therear handle. (51)Pull the starter handle, 4: Pull the starter handle withyour right hand and pull out the starter cord slowly untilyou feel a resistance (as the starter pawls engage) thenpull firmly and rapidly until the engine fires.Push down the red choke control, 5: As soon as theengine fires which can be heard through a "puff" sound,push down on the red choke control.Pull the starter handle (6): Keep on pulling the cordpowerfully until the engine starts.Warm engineStart position, 1: The correct choke/start throttle settingfor warm starting is obtained by initially moving the chokecontrol by pulling the red control outward - upwards. (50)Decompression valve (2): Press the valve to reduce thepressure in the cylinder and make starting easier. Oncethe machine has started the valve will automatically returnto its original setting. (50)Air purge (3): Press the air purge diaphragm repeatedlyuntil fuel fills the diaphragm (at least 6 times). Thediaphragm need not be completely filled. (50)Push down the red choke control, 5: This inactivatesthe choke, which is not needed when starting a warmchain saw. However the movement of the start/stop switchwill have engaged a high idle, making warm startingeasier.Pull the starter handle, 6: Grip the front handle with yourleft hand. Hold the chain saw on the ground by placingyour right foot through the rear handle. (51)Pull the starter handle with your right hand and pull outthe starter cord slowly until you feel a resistance (as thestarter pawls engage) then pull firmly and rapidly until theengine fires.As the chain brake is still engaged the speed of theengine must be set to idling as soon as possible, this isachieved by disengaging the throttle lock.Disengagement is done by gently touching on the throttletrigger. This prevents unnecessary wear to the clutch,clutch drum and brake band. Allow the machine to idle afew seconds before giving full throttle.There is a simplified start reminder with illustrations todescribe each step on the rear edge of the saw (A). (50)NB! Do not pull the starter cord all the way out and do notlet go of the starter handle when the cord is fullyextended. This can damage the machine.Note! Pull the front hand guard towards the fronthandle. The chain brake is now disengaged. Your sawis ready for use.• Never start a chain saw unless the bar, chain and allcovers are fitted correctly. See instructions under theheading Assembly. Without a bar and chain attachedto the chain saw the clutch can come loose and causeserious injury.• The chain brake should be activated when starting.Se instructions under the heading Start and stop. Donot drop start. This method is very dangerousbecause you may lose control of the saw. (52)• Never start the machine indoors. Exhaust fumes canbe dangerous if inhaled.• Observe your surroundings and make sure that thereis no risk of people or animals coming into contactwith the cutting equipment.• Always hold the saw with both hands. The right handshould be on the rear handle, and the left hand on thefront handle. All people, whether right or left handed,should use this grip. Use a firm grip with thumbs andfingers encircling the chain saw handles.StoppingStop the engine by pushing the start/stop switch down. (53)NB! The start/stop switch automatically returns to runposition. To avoid involuntary start up, the spark plug capmust always be removed from the spark plug when themachine is unsupervised. (54)! WARNING! Note the following beforestarting:The chain brake must be engaged whenthe chain saw is started to reduce thechance of contact with the moving chainduring starting.Never start a chain saw unless the bar,chain and all covers are fitted correctly.Otherwise the clutch can come loose andcause personal injuries.Place the machine on firm ground. Makesure you have a secure footing and thatthe chain cannot touch anything.Keep people and animals well away fromthe working area.Never wrap the starter cord around yourhand.! WARNING! Long term inhalation of theengine’s exhaust fumes, chain oil mistand dust from sawdust can represent ahealth risk.
