Keep parts in electrostatic containersuntil needed and ensure you are properlygrounded when touching static-sensitivecomponents.Do the following before beginning these procedures:• Schedule a maintenance window that will includetime for shutdown, sixty minutes of replacementwork, and restart.• Verify that there is a recent backup of the system.• Record system settings.• Label all cables.• Prepare a large, stable work surface.Procedural overviewReplacing a failed chassis includes the following keysteps:1. Removing drive and drive blank modules from thefailed chassis.2. Removing the failed chassis from the rack.3. Moving side brackets to the replacement chassis.4. Moving power and cooling, controller, I/O, andair management modules to the replacementchassis.5. Installing the replacement chassis in the rack.6. Installing drive or drive blank modules in thereplacement chassis.7. Completing the process and verifying properoperation.Preparing for the replacement1. If the controller enclosure or drive enclosure chassisis operational, do the following to shutdown thestorage system:a. Stop all I/O to the storage system that includesthe failed chassis.b. Shutdown all array controllers in the system. To shutdown a controller using the SMU, selectthe array in the navigation tree and then selectTools>Shutdown or Restart Controller. After thecontroller is shut down, the blue OK to RemoveLED on the controller illuminates.2. Turn off power and cooling module switches (ifpresent).3. Make sure the cables are clearly labelled and thendisconnect the cables, including the power cords, from the modules.IMPORTANT: Use caution when handling FibreChannel cables:• Touching the end of a Fibre Channel cableeither damages the cable or causesperformance problems, including intermittentdifficulties accessing the storage.• When a Fibre Channel cable or port is notconnected, install protective covers on theends of the cable or in the device port.Removing drive and drive blank modulesfrom the failed chassisCAUTION:• These procedures require that all drives beremoved from the failed chassis and theninstalled in the replacement chassis.• Because drives are heavy, HP recommendsremoving drives prior to moving the chassis. If this is not possible, two or more people arerequired to lift the chassis.• Remove the drives after confirming that allinternal movement has halted.• As a best practice, remove the drive anddrive blank modules in bay-number sequenceand organize them on your work surface inthe same sequence. This helps ensure thatyou reinstall the modules in the same baynumber from which they were removed.1. Press and slide the release latch button to releasethe latch handle (1).2. Rotate out the latch handle to disengage the modulefrom the internal connector (2).3. Pull the module straight out of the chassis (3).Removing the failed chassis from the rack1. Remove the ear bezels by grasping each bezelfirmly and pulling until the bezel separates from theball nuts on the chassis ear.2. Remove retaining screws securing the front and rearof the chassis to the rack and rails.3. Remove the chassis from the rack.4. Place the failed chassis on the work surface nearthe replacement chassis.Page 1 |
